Question about Canon i850 InkJet Photo Printer
new cartridges can be defective also.
Remove and re-insert the cartridge, double check them,
( leave printer on )
Check printer's Advanced properties are not set for black only,
switch off at mains, reboot,
Run maintainance on it, head cleaner, nozzles etc...
if the same, swap out, the color cartridge it is faulty.

Compatible carts do make a lot of trouble. One point is the draining! The ink has flown into the cart assy and beyond that to the bottom of the printer. As long as you can print without problems you dont have to do anything. If the test pages wont show the correct color you have to open the printer and to clean the assy and the bottom.
Do use original ink carts though these wont drain and give correct info to printer. You can very simple refill them with dye ink. Dye ink only!!!
