Device not used for a while and now does not switch on?
Charged up battery, did a soft reset and hard reset.
Device switches on now after soft reset only, boot runs, tap screen to calibrate and then it switches off...?
Repeated process 10 times same result.
I have to agree with DirtyHarry1, it sounds like the battery could be weak. On my iPAQ when the battery is done charging the charging light changes from orange to green, I'm not sure if yours will do that. I'd try leaving it charging on the cradle for about 24 hours to see if that improves the life any.

I Also Had The Same Problem. Now I Fixed It. Go To Power In Settings. Click On The Advanced Tab. Uncheck The Box Which Says "Turn Off The Device If Not Used For" Box. This Will Solve The Problem. It Solved Mine. Thereafter Once, My Backlight Did Not Switch On. Fix This By Going Into Backlight Settings And Uncheck The Box Which Says "Turn Off The Backlight If Not Used For" Box. This Will Solve It. Then Soft Reset The Device To Change Settings. To Soft Reset, Find A Small Hole In The Left Hand Side Of The Device. Put Your Stylus In And PRESS ONLY ONCE. If You Keep It Pressed, Your Device Will Hard Reset. Don't Do That. Just Press ONCE.
Check that the battery is holding charge. If you are sure that the battery is working, try to do a soft reset or a hard reset to see if it wakes up. The battery usually has issues if it has been left unused to discharge for a long time.
If still freeze after the resets, then try to do a Hard Reset.
With this way you will restore your device at the default condition.
Take care to remove any external memory from iPAQ before to this and also have it
The bad of this....you will loose everything stored at the internal memory of iPAQ.
The good this...your iPAQ would be alive again ;-)
To to a Hard Reset press at the same time the reset button+calendar button+today button.
If you've backed up your PDA, I'd strongly suggest trying a hard reset.
This has happened before to one of my RZ1710 pda's. The only solution was to hard reset it.
This can be done by pressing the two extreme left and right buttons (The Calander, and Home button) and the reset button on the bottom of your iPaq with the stylus.
