This problem, where the unit continually switches on and off when the handgun is closed, is quite common. Unfortunately it has at least six different possible causes, only two of which are easily checked.
The first thing you can do is look for leaks.  Even the slightest leak will cause this pulsing because the unit gets up to pressure, switches off, loses pressure, switches back on again, comes back up to pressure, switches off... and so on.  This repeated switching is not good for the motor and should not be allowed to continue for longer than necessary to observe what's happening.
So... 1. Does the handgun shut off completely, or does it drip? If it drips, it may simply be because a seal has failed. The handgun can be dismantled, checked, and any defective parts replaced; be sure to lubricate O-rings with silicone grease when reassembling. As a last resort, the whole gun may need to be replaced.
2. Are there any visible leaks at the high-pressure hose screw connections?  If so, most likely an O-ring needs replacing - again lubricate the new one well with silicone grease.
3. If there are no visible leaks, either from the gun or from the connections, all other possible causes are internal within the cylinder head or control head of the pump. New parts will be needed and this normally calls for a professional repair, although it's not beyond the scope of a truly competent amateur.
I hope this helps. Any further questions, just ask! Please remember to rate this response.

Karcher 310, motor running but lost all pressure , was working properly then when wanted pressure again after short pause no pressure

Mine does that when I am either not getting enough water to the pressure washer or it still has air in it. I usually turn the pressure washer off and pull the trigger until it stops spitting air.

Why doesn't the unit stop running when pausing while pressure washing, it use to

Hi If you have any leaks on the high pressure side then the unit will keep starting. Please check all external hoses etc and o rings to make sure that they are water tight. The most common one is where you screw your high pressure hose on,there is a o ring inside the coupling that usually wears. Also check all o rings at the trigger and lance. If there are no leaks then it sound like you have a problem with your pressure switch.

Karcher k 3.99 does not pause correct

Is there a water leaking from the bottom ? If so then there maybe is a small crack in the Pump Plastic Manifold Housing. A New Manifold Complete Replacement is approx. $61.03 from Karcher, if you are mechanically inclined.
If under 1 year old, and you can find a receipt,Karcher will replace the whole Pressure washer under warranty.

I started working with the Karcher KB4040 pressure washer and all was well for 1-2mins, then it sputered a bit and all power died. All hoses were still attached properly, it hadn't blown a fuse in my house...

if the water is in anyway impeded, like kink in hose the unit turns off and goes into protection mode. That it it shuts down for a pewriod of time depending on how hot it may have got.
When its rested try it again ensuring you definitely have water flow.If the solenoid has failed it costs about !60-200 to fix as they replace all seals regardless

WASHER KEEPS STOPPING DURING CYCLE need to pause and restart x's

i would remove hte bottom access panel (3 screws across the lower front) o fmachine. form there you will gain acess to the "button trap" its a clean out for the pump assembly, sounds as if there is a something clogging the drain there fore preventing washer form high speed spin. beaware when the plug is removed there will be a bunch of water behind so be prepared with some towells, ( i use a kitchen plastic bag to collect water and any other gunk that may come through
