The Model is an HP Photosmart D5160

  • michael_jaye Apr 16, 2009

It seems that I have to be some sort of expert, also: carriage, printhead, axis bar, circuit head? I have no idea where these things are!

  • michael_jaye Apr 16, 2009

Here's anew development: the "window" in the upper left-hand corner of my HP Photosmart D5160 is showing 2 icons of the ink cartridges. Does that mean they have to be replaced?

Would have been VERY helpful to include the make/model of printer with your question - all I can do is give you general ideas for all printers.

Some printers need the overflow sponges cleaned...
Some printers need driver updates...
Some printers need cartridges cleaned with q-tip and isopropyl alcohol...
Some printers need a new paper feed sensor...
Some printers need new (full) cartridges...

Please use the "continue with this expert" option and reply with your printer make and model number.
Thanks for using FixYa!!

    Addressing the on/off issue -

Be aware that anything inhibiting free carriage travel will cause the printer to turn off, as a protective measure. Make sure the printhead is free and unobstructed, no gunk or corrosion on the axis bar.

otherwise - Is it likely to be a simple switch fault, or more likely to be the circuit card.

Please check the power cable is firmly installed - to rule it out as the culprit.

If none of the simple fixes work - you are probably going to be in the market for a new printer soon :D
as the cost to repair would be more than a new one.

Reply with the make/model, and I'll give you a better idea of the problem.

Saeco coffee machine with a red blinking exclamation point light won't make coffee, how do I fix it?

When the red exclamation point is flashing slow, something is not where it is supposed to be, bean hopper lid, door, brew mech, water tank empty, dregs box or water tray on dregs container is full. If the red exclamation point is flashing quickly, open the steam valve for pump priming. If pump turns on, and water passes correctly, the light should go off and return to heating stage. If not, we have a blockage or a pump that is not working correctly.

Exclamation point in triangle blinking on dashboard

Hi, The exclamation point in triangle blinking is the "Emergency Blinker" This blinker turns on all all of the turn signal lamps at all four corners of the car. Left and Right, Front and Back. The triangle represents the European symbol for roadside emergencies. In fact on European Mercedes and other cars there is a triangle shaped reflector you can put behind the car so that other drivers know you have an emergency. THAT TRIANGLE ON YOUR DASHBOARD IS A BUTTON. PUSH IT ONCE. THE BLINKING SHOULD STOP. If you have a roadside emergency, and are broken down by the side of the rode. Push the Red Triangle and your lights will blink on and off ouTside to say, in effect "help".
Hope this helps.

Orange exclamation point is blinking, screen says "replace supplies", but it says that all the time. Nothing will print or copy. It will scan the document like it's going to copy, but then just stops....

I'm a tech on that printer. That's a generic message if one cartridge is at 0%. When one toner or drum reach 0 it wont print even though you don't use that supply. The unit should show the level on the screen, if one is empty replace it.

The ink cartridge holder will not move across the machine as usual. The COPY light is lit, also a red exclamation point. I cannot make copies or print from my computer There is an error message: Printer...

You could try a couple of things - firstly, check to see if there are any foreign objects stopping the cart from moving - this happens regularly, even lollie wrappers can stop it! I once found a comb in a printer!

Secondly, you could try unplugging the printer entirely, turn upside down and give a firm shake, this will assist in clearing debri.

Or finally, Phone 0800 2 EPSON (NZ number)

Warning Light

That exclamation light on the dash board indicates low tire pressure. Check the air in all your tires and make sure they are all filled to proper levels and it should turn off.
