Problem for Motorola SM56 (SM-56-PCI) Modem
Can't get modem to work
I installed the modem on a Windows XP Pro 32 bit PC. Used the correct driver, in the \x32\W2KXP\ folder. When it tried to call, I would hear the dial tone but the modem didn't, after I while it would say "No dial tone". I forced it to dial by unchecking the "Wait for dial tone" box. Then it would dial, but the dialing tones didn't sound right, they were loud and raspy, and the phone system igonred them. I uninstalled and reinstalled the driver and then it worked perfectly. For a few days! Now its gone back to its old misbehaviour and I cannot get it to work, tried all the things I tried before. What is the problem? Any ideas?

Do this
- unplug modem from computer
- uninstall drivers
- reinstall drivers first then
- install modem
- check for updates at moto site as well microsoft.
- swap USB cables if its a plug and play device.
- check phone line swap for a cat 3 RJ 11 cable not all modular cords are the same
- Cheapo dollar store or made in china labels on mod cords are decieveing, poor quality as well construction . Buy a Qulaity cord.
- check phone jack if you own a puppy or kitty the love to mark and green corrosion will mess a jack up. replace if its green ans well the mod cord may be green don't waste time in cleaning it. key word RESISTANCE !
