Fisher & Paykel GWL10 US won't spin

6 year old Fisher & Paykel GWL10 US won't spin. For awhile, the clothes in the very bottom seemed damper than usual. Yesterday's clothes didn't spin well, now a load today won't spin at all.

Thanks! I did do more reading on others having a similar problem after posting, and after reading the suggestions (as you suggested above), it was fixed!!! Thanks to all of you, you are awesome! It was a cheap towel (from Walmart) that had shredded, and pieces of it were indeed in the pump. Saved us a lot of money with the advice! THANKS!!!

Mine won't spin either. I still can't figure out how to disconnect the pump even though the instructions here make sense.

I have a gwl10. that is not spinning dry and clothes in the very bottom are wet. I tried to get in fault mode but not sure how. power on I hold the spin up/down button but nothing happens.

My FP fwl10 is not advancing on it's own. It's taking me to advance it to the spin manually. I replace the diverter valve/drain pump in 2005. At that time I got the beeps and the error code. This time no beeps just notice that load was taking forever. I advanced it to the spin zone myself, and it drained then complete the spin cylce on its own. I think it's going to be the main control panel now, which is around $200 part, but wasn't sure if any other suggestions were out there. At least it is still working so I can get my laundry done. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Had the same problem. Removed the pump and found a small piece of plastic from a new collared shirttail restricting the water flow. Thanks for your posts!

If the machine still has water in it, the drain pump is jammed or there may be an obstrution in one of the hoses. It is most likely the drain pump. Switch off the machine at the wall and unplug it. Tilt machine against a wall and look underneath. On the right you will see the drain pump. It looks upside down. Unplug the wiring harness to the pump and remove pump by turning it clockwise while at the same time releasing the little white clip that holds the pump in place. Clean thoroughly and replace pump.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! As a single mom with two little boys, a new washing machine was NOT in my budget, especially after the holidays. I followed your advice and found one of my two-year-old's socks twisted and caught in the pump. After putting it all back together, the water drained during the rinse and spin cycle as it is supposed to. Quick, easy, and cheap fix! I can't thank you enough!!!

Thanks! This information was very helpful in avoiding a service call for my Fisher & Paykel GWL10. Mine had a twist that lead to a simpler solution - others may experience the same problem. Symptoms were the same - clothes were still saturated with water. Seemed they either weren't spinning or water wasn't draining. No diagnostic codes, but, when I tried to manually run the pump, it just hummed. Followed the instructions to remove the pump and check for obstructions. First, I had to remove the display console, top, basket, agitator - all just to get the gallon of water out of the bottom. In the end, I could have done this by just siphoning most of the water out. When I finally got the water out of the tub, I tipped the washer up to get at the pump. I look at the drain pump - low and behold, a dryer sheet is all wrapped up around the exposed fan blade of the pump. Really tied up in there. It must have fallen out of some bundle of laundry and blown under the washer. I dislodged that and the motor spun freely. Once I put everything back together, the washer worked fine. Point is, see if you can get a look at the pump before you take the unit apart. Maybe you'll get lucky like I did and find an obstruction outside the pump.

I had a spin out problem with ours. I pulled the pump as described above. No obstructions were found, but I did empty the water. Now when I tested the spin cycle all was good.
We are now testing with a small load to see how it performs.

there could be something stuck in the machine between the two bowls. lifting the lid, removing the ring, agitator and inner bowl will easily check this. if the machine has become loud on spin, and the leak is actually from the bottom (more likely) then it could need seals and bearings replaced. don't run it too much more while leaking, electricity and water don't mix XD

I have a 10 year old Fisher & Paykel GWL10 washing machine. Fault code 1 is coming up. The machine turns completely off. The longer it cools down, the longer it goes before turning off again. This...

Code 1 - usually means on the later models of Fisher & Paykel is a faulty Motor Control Module, often though one would have to replace both as well as the display module.

Anyway - it sounds like the electronics are overheating hence the intermittent problems you are experiencing.

Yes it does seem like a control module fault.Bit concerned about the noise coming from the machine even thou it is not running. Please turn it off at the power point when not in use.Now if and when it faults again please reply back with error code as per 1st posting.

At this stage i can suggest that the inlet valve may be faulty & giving off this burning smell.open the control box & see if one of the 2 inlet valves look distorted or brown or burnt looking.I'm wondering if it's not filling very fast also, this could also be an indication of the valve.

its possible that the pump is either going bad or there is somethin gin the pumps/sump assy. on this model the unit generally tends to shut down when the pump overheats, and will only restart when the pump cools off, a warnig obout replaing hte pump if need be is the pump is actually 220v. you MUST UNPLUG MACHINE BEFORE SERVICING. its a foriegn brand remember so theres abuncha wierd wiring and the pump is one of them!
