Yes your motherboard can support a 512mb graphics card. most recent 478 motherboards now support that much memory.

What type and location are the board slots om the EP-8VTAI motherboard. which is PCIe, etc.

Any "modern" motherboard will have several "PCI" slots -- usually "white" in colour, and identically shaped.

The motherboard may optionally have one "AGP" slot (for an Advanced Graphics Port video-card), or one, or more, "PCI-E" slots.

The AGP slot will start FURTHER away from the "back" of the computer than the PCI slots.

The AGP and PCI-E slots will be different in shape than the PCI slots, and not lined-up with the PCI slots.

How will i know the maximum capacity of the video card i can install for Ep-8hmmi-a?

Your board has na AGP 8x graphics slot on it, this is an older technology and you'll find your upgrade options severly limited I'm afraid.

I'd have to advise looking at a more complete upgrade myself, new motherboard, CPU, memory and graphics.

Bad graphic

Your motherboard only supports AGP. You can use any AGP graphics card that supports up to 4X AGP. nVidia and ATI make great cards as well as other manufacturers that mak boards using nVidia and ATI chipsets. I would recomend a card with at least 512MB of memory onboard. I hope this helps.

Upgrading VIDEO CARD

If your motherboard's graphics slot is AGP and your graphics card is AGP then it should be fine if your motherboard is PCI-E and graphics is PCI-E it also is fine make sure your motherboard and graphics are compatible.

AGP 2.0 and 3.0 4x and 8x feed with the 1.5v spec. AGP 1.0 1x and 2x was fed at 3.3v. In short, you should be fine.

About graphics card

Your motherboard supports AGP graphics cards at 1x, 2x, and 4x speed only. You can find great prices on these cards here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2010380048+1069609639&name=AGP+4X%2f8X
