1 Answer

Vertical My tv just starting to give me problems. If your looking at a door or straight lines they bow in and the text bar's at the bottom of the screen seem larger. If your watching sporting events you can't read all of the text some disappears off the screen.

Re: Vertical

Hi. Im not at all familiar with your make of TV set, I am in the UK we dont have RCA make of TV. But what you are discribing is an East/West fault this is a common problem on all TV sets. It could be quite a few things that can cause this eg (make adjustments in engineers mode, E/W coil burnt up, Resistors or caps burnt up) Its not an easy repair for a novice to tackle It requires fault finding & being able to read A meter. Usually not exspensive to put right by A shop.

Thin vertical line, high tension problem ?

Is very unlikely that the high tension system would cause the vertical to collapse but for sure there's a cold/crystalized solder joint near or the vertical IC. I would suggest to check the solder joints from the vertical IC as well from the high power resistors or from areas that looks like they a have exposure to overheating components.
The reason that the TV works when the back cover is removed is because the board might be get a bit loose and the solder joints make electrical contact. With the back cover ON, the board sits straight and the slightly movement causes the solder joint to loose its contact.
Let me know if you need further assistance.

In order to provide a correct dianosis and cure, I will need to know the model number and in which direction the bow occurs. Does the curve occur from the top and bottom toward the center or from the sides toward the center? There are different circuits involved in these case.

Please update this and I'll provide a solution.

Tv goes to straight line in center of picture then

It happens when Vertical deflection stops as Vertical Out IC becomes hot or does not get vertical signal.
Please check electrolytic capacitors and dry solder joints in vertical out section in TV.

Vertical Line in center of screen

never heard of so called card myself but ,is the line your talking about from top to bottom or from side to side in the middle?straight across middle is called horizional which means vertical problem so you have either bad capacitors 35uf 100v ,1uf 50v, or bad vertical output ic.

Picture too tall. How do you shorten?

Picture displaced vertically, picture too high or low
This problem was cured by entering the service mode (menu then 4,7,2,5), then pressing the green fastext button to access geometry settings, selecting VP1 (vertical position) and adjusting as necessary
Very low width and bowed verticals,no ew correction. R626 o/c
C630 (390nF, 300v) faulty, located next to scan socket. This fault can also be caused by R629 (2R7 fusable) o/c. In my set C630 was dry-jointed but not faulty. Check generally for dry joints in the E/W and PSU areas. Note that R629 is a safety component

Sony FD Trinitron WEGA KV-36HS500 36" TV - Bowed Picture

it sounds like a convergence adjustment problem. If you hava book on the tv still read it, and it will tell you what to do, other wise, look for a convergence button on the front of your tv, and take the remote and push menu to bring up setup, and go convergence adjustment click it and hit the conv. button on the front of the screen. there should be to lines going vertical and horizontal, these are the limes you adjust with your remote, you have to adjust the red and blue, the tv should blink to let you know which color you are on. when you have them lined up right the line will be perfectly white. hope this helps
