Question about GE GSH25JFR Side by Side Refrigerator

1 Answer

Not making ice, no water dispensed, ref not cooling anymore

I unplugged the unit for now, hoping that it may just be a simple frozen pipe or cleaning prob. Reading other's issues, in case it is a mother board prob-how much will it cost me to get it fixed, labor/parts. The service call is covered if we decide to get it fixed right? Thank you. This is my first time having to deal with major appliances conking out--any helpful info would be appreciated!

Water dispenser line frozen, items freezing in fridge side. Freezer constantly running/blowing

Your freezer is what actually cools the refrigerator. The cool air enters from that spot on the top left of the freezer. Make sure that isn't blocked. It's sounds like the thermostat that controls the air flow from the freezer to the refrigerator isn't working or the air flow control device is stuck.

Either way if you can, unload and unplug the unit. This will do to things. First it will reset the circuits that control everything and secondly if the air flow control is frozen thawing out the refrigerator and freezer may free it up.

No ice in ice maker, no water in door.

check back to source for crimped or blocked pipes. If you can not see anything try removing the pipe and pass air through it, if you find resistance (when valves are open) you may have a frozen/crimped pipe.

Ice maker makes ice but freezes before it can be dispensed so the dispenser is always clogged with frozen ice. Cleaned out the ice maker and started over but same results. The temp is set at 38 for the...

Hi, The freezer should be "0", the possible clogging you have could be a leaking water valve or an over filling ice maker. I would have the ice maker checked for volume of water dispenser during harvest, should be 5.5 oz. (2/3 cup), if more the 6 oz. the ice maker is bad. If fails to stop filling or leaks/drips, replace the water valve behind the unit.
I hope this helps.

SBD21VE Side-by-Side - water dispenser line seems to be freezing. Water is still getting to the ice maker, as ice is still being made. When I recently had the fridge unplugged for a thorough cleaning,...

COOLING Dust on the condenser coils can cause overheating, observe safety precautions then clean coils. Switch off the unit before you clean them. If the problem persists, test the compressor for overheating. Overheating will cause many problems with cooling ability. Leave the unit unplugged for 3 hours and plug it in again. If it starts working, the compressor is probably overheating (Observe cautions with food going bad). A simple cause of the problem might also be that there is not enough airflow Lack of airflow is the number one cause of compressor problems and thus an owner purchasing another unit for hundreds of dollars when you can fix it for free. There should be at least several inches distance between the sides and walls/cupboards/ceiling. Electrical There is an in-line fuse mounted in the line supplying the power to the ice-maker. It is in the wire clipped to the side, change out this fuse asap. It is actually a 20-amp fused, associated with the grounded electrical supply. PARTS You may order parts very cheap from here TIME TO CHANGE YOUR FILTER While your on the back of the system, please check the filter. There is a filter in the back of the fridge in the upper right hand side. If you do not change it, it will slow down the frig and burn it out permanently.

I just changed the ice maker on my jenn aire ref. JCD2289AES. The old one was leaking everywhere and making a big frozen block of ice . It seemed very simple but, it the cube tray is not filling with water...

there is a solonoid valve at the back of the freezer section (externally) which should release 7 seconds of water into the ice tray to fill it..
the most common cause of leaking ice makers is that the valve freezes up if not much ice has been used.. and you simply need to thaw the freezer out overnight (put the contents in a cool box, or wrap it in lots of bubble wrap/newspaper and cool blankets to keep it frozen)
that aside, there is a wire ice-stopper that goes up and down as the level of the ice rises and falls.. if it is in the raise position, the ioce maker won't do anything.. you can gently press it down, and things should start almost immediately.

No water to ice maker but there is to water dispenser

It is likely that the water lines to the ice maker or the dispensing unit is frozen somewhere.

First be sure that the ice maker switch is in the Down or On position. If it is you can simple try unplugging the unit for a few hours then plugging it back in to see if that clears up the problem. No need to worry about your food, try and keep the refrigerator door closed as much as possible though.
Also look in your Manual under "Trouble Shooting" for possible solution.

Water dispenser on GE side by side not working. what should the refrigerator and freezer settings be? Can that be the problem?

Dispenser controls on any refrigerator actuate one of two things. Ice disp, or water disp. If the IM is not working also, then H20 valve is bad. If just the H20 disp feature isn't working in the door, try this: remove food and unplug unit for 24 hours. Then, plug back in and resume normal operation. If all checks ok, you have a frozen water tank, or frozen water line. Fix: on certain model ref's, there is a water tank service flash where an antifreeze insulation kit should be installed, contact Sears or your retailer for this information. On others, this is simply a freeze up caused by lack of H20 usage or temps in ref/freezer set too low. If this does not fix the water supply, and you still have ice production after 2-5 hours after restarting the ref, remove the dispenser cover and test the water supply actuator switch for continuity. of open after drepression, replace switch. If switch checks ok, then replace water valve as on side of the solonoid valve assy is not functioning. In rare cases, you may have to check or replace the wiring harness. This can be tested only after elimenating the disp switch test, and calling for H20 from the disp, voltage at the disp wires to the H20 valve, but no voltage recieved at the h20 valve, or by an ohm reading of the wires.

Ice maker not making ice

Water solenoid to ice maker not working. Check with ohm meter..should NOT read open
Water line to Ice maker frozen solid. Look at water inlet to ice ice present in line?
Evaporator coils frozen over with ice. Will cause water line to freeze and unit will slowly thaw.
Try unplugging the unit for several hours and see if it starts to cool normally again. If it cools normally then check heater element and Defrost Thermostat.
