Question about Kenwood DNX7100 Car Video Player

Audio seems to lock out

The audio seems to work, then will lock out and the main menu tab will also turn gray. Could this be because I do not have the parking break wire attached to anything? It seems to work when I reset, then lock out and go silent again.

Re: Audio seems to lock out

You must ground the parking break wire. Just ground that wire to the frame. This will make the radio think it is always parked, but you now will be able to access GPS directions while on the move and the grey out will not happen. Worked for me.

STEP ONE. Ground the E-Brake wire.
No matter which method you use, you must ground the brake detection wire. I suggest you tap it into the ground wire on your wiring harness (ensures a good ground).

FACTORY RESET METHOD (not permanent)

1 Go to the Menu
2 Get to the Settings Menu
3 Select <yes> to Reset to Factory Settings.

Have recently heard complaints of this method not being permanent, as this is needed whenever they want to watch a DVD. Also, radio and screen angle presets are lost.

1 Insert Audio CD
2 Press PLAY
3 Press STOP twice on remote
4 Enter 26604 on remote
5 Press ENTER
6 Take out Audio CD and Insert a DVD
DVD METHOD (Permanent)
** Insert a DVD
** Let it play until you hear sound
** Press STOP twice on remote
** Enter 26604
** Press ENTER

The blue warning screen should immediately go away after pressing the last digit of "26604." Still press ENTER as a precaution.

The 3rd method seems to work with most of the duals

Cant get Audio Controls to unlock!

Put it in standby mode by pushing source. Then go to the menu and hit system setup. Select page 3 I thing and turn output from rear to sub. Now you should have control from the audio menu.

I cant turn my sub on

I had the same iss and what I finally figured out through the use of the book and just messing with it is- go to the menu seletion screes should be the upper right button on the screen or what would be a main menu of all the options - then scroll down to the next menu page there should be one button listed as standby- click it- then go back through your menus and adjust where needed for the sub. Then just adjust all you things to max- it worked for me. the lables for audio nad interface still had a lock on it but after hitting the standby button to can then change your settings that were previously locked up. then once done just go back to your tuner or dvd etc.. to get out of set up menu.

(This isn't the most effective, but it is the easiest to try, so it's worth a shot since it apparently works on some units.)

Jensen VM9510 No voices in movies

It sounds as though the unit is set up for "6-channel" surround mode, but you don't have a center speaker. That means the audio sent to that speaker isn't being heard. You'll need to get to the audio setup menu, and either turn off the 6-channel mode, or turn off the center channel option. There are two different Jensen models with the VM9510 model number, but you can download an owner's manual for either one here:

I am going to assume you are making a standard DVD-Video disk, since the other format takes more specialized and much less common software. One likely possibility is that you have authored your disks with mpeg audio rather than Digital Dolby (AC3) or linear PCM (LPCM) audio format. MPEG format audio is commonly used in home DVD authoring but is seldom if ever found on commercial disks. my guess is that your car player isnt set to properly decode mpeg audio disks. I would suggest you go through the menus / owner instructions for your car player and find the menu setting which allows your car player to play back mpeg (rather than Digital Dolby or LPCM) audio, and your disks should then play fine in the car. Hope this helps.
