Your TV most likely has one or more possible problems.

Problem #1: Convergence Chip Failure ( common problem )

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a blue lines will not line up - 2c07611.pnglem.

You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together a kits for most models. If you don't see a kit for your set send them a quick note and they will put one together for you. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, etc.

Problem #2 CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

What you will need to do is replace the coolant and clean the crt. You can get a repair kit from www.TvRepairKits.com that includes replacement coolant, photos. instructions, etc.

My camera takes pictures which look fine on the monitor, but the captured image is covered with horizontal jagged lines. Any ideas what may be occuring .... help please?

It is an error in the camera as the picture/image caught into the memorry is having some noise when reproduced.
remove the battery for some time (10 min) and put it back without the memory , then after some time remove battery and insert the memory. Iff possible put the camera on charge for some hours .Also put the camera on continuosuly . check if the fault has changed, if so some capacitor is weak and on charge gets rectified.

Tv works like 10 min.then retrace lines appear,

the model number 53fdx....etc is not a Toshiba model number---It is a Hitachi model number.

First if it comes on and you get trace lines before it shuts off----does it just get very bright and if so does it get bright red, green, or Blue?

if one of the picture tubes or the circuit around them has a problem you can get this and the set will shut down because it detects something is pulling way too much current.

I would be happy to try to help you but look at back of your set for brand and model number and if possible try to give me a better idea of what the picture looks like before it goes out.

you did not mention if you have sound.but if you have sound your problem is in your video and vertical section.if no sound then you have to look into the IF section.if you are not a tech then you will have to take your set to repairman.goodluck.the tuner must not be over looked.an estimate of about $200.00 could be less.
