SOURCE: no spark to spark plug wire

Have you tried cleaning the plug or a new one. Try removing the plug, reconnect it to the wire and placing the thread part of the plug against the 'fins'. This will make the engine easier to pull and to see if spark is jumping the gap. If there's no spark, take the plug off and hold the connector about an 1/8 " from the fins and see if spark jumps. If not, the armature (ign. coil) may be bad. Before you change the armature though, check that the wire from the armature (terminal underneath) to kill switch is not grounding out. Information overload? lol

SOURCE: 13.5hp Briggs And Stratton snowblower.I tried to

Concerning your starter/pull cord problem, what has probably happened is that due to sitting idle for an extended period, the pinion gear had stuck in the down position on the clutch drive.

When you engaged it with power it spun as it was supposed to do but did not immediately spin up into the ring gear.

After you released the starter button and it began to slow down the gear spun up into the flywheel and jammed because it didn't have enough power to turn the engine.

A usually simple fix for this is to turn the engine backward by hand just enough to relieve the tension and the return spring will push the gear back down.

At this point, you can try the electric starter again and it should work properly. If it does not work, you will have to remove the starter and clean and inspect the starter drive on the top of the starter.

Concerning the fact that it would not start, you more than likely have some old fuel trapped in the bottom of the float bowl.

You may be able to remedy this by spraying some carburetor cleaner in the carb while trying to start it.

If it has spark and everything else is in good condition, it will start and run as long as it has carb cleaner getting to the engine so you may need to spray it a few times while it is running on that and sometimes the stale fuel problem will clear itself.

If it doesn't clear up and run on its own without the carb cleaner after 3 or 4 shots of spray you will need to remove the float bowl and clean it and the main jet with the carb cleaner.

Protect your eyes and bare skin while using the carburetor cleaner, it will injure you. Do not spray it on any rubber gaskets or seals, it will swell and ruin them.

Sorry for the "book" I wrote but I am trying to explore as many possibilities as I can to get you up and snow blowing!

SOURCE: the lawnmower won t start after pulling the start

try a touch of starting fluid right into the carburator by taking the air filter off. If it then starts but wont run or stay running, the reservoir below the carb should be removed to clean at and the pinhole in the intake tube above the bowl nut. This is the most common problem with lawnmower start problems, the pinhole can be unplugged with one wire from a wire brush. Be careful with the gas, at least pinch off the gas hose with a vise grips while removing the carb bowl.. Never use a droplight around gasoline.

I hit a tree root and the mower will not start now, any suggestions?

The first thing you need to confirm is that the engine is still turning over properly. Remove the spark plug and pull the cord several times to make sure you have gone through all cycles. Everything feel and sound normal? If not, you could have bent a valve when the motor stopped so suddenly. Turn the mower over, with the spark plug still out and carefully rotate the blade by hand. Turn ok? If yes then the next step would be to ensure that you have spark. Hold the spark plug wire close to the engine block and pull the cord. If ignition system is working you should see a spark jump from the wire to the block. You can also buy testers that attach to the spark plug wire and glow if there is proper spark. If you do not have spark then the violent stop may have either broken a wire on damage the magneto. If you have spark then next step is to ensure that engine is getting fuel. Put a little fuel directly into the spark plug hole, put the plug back in and try to start it. If it starts for a second and then stops then fuel supply is the problem.

Stihl chainsaw MS460 Can't pull recoil

It could be the recoil is stuck. a couple of things to check. Take the clutch and chain cover off, remove the spark plug and manually try to turn the motor over by turning the clutch. If the motor/engine is not seized, take the pull start/recoil cover off and pull on the cord to see if it will work and that the cord returns back into the recoil automatically. Don't take the nut off the inside of recoil holding the cord spool on. If the engine is not seized, and the recoil now goes in and out by pulling the start cord handle reassemble and pull over the engine a few times. This a good time to check the spark plug is working, now put the spark plug back in and start the engine. It's a good time to clean the air filter as well while the chainsaw is mostly apart and clean all oily sawdust off the chainsaw in the crevices etc..

I have a troy bilt 690 series 190cc self propelled lawn mower that won't run. I have changed the carb, spark plug, oil, and gas. The fuel line is not blocked because when I pulled it off the carb it...

Pinch off or turn off fuel line to carb. Remove carb from engine. Remove carb bottom bowl. Observe screw that holds bowl to carb if it has a whole thru it clean it out with a bread wrapper twist after you peal back about an inch of wire. Remove float and needle, use same wire to clean out port. Use same wire to clean out center fuel pick up port in center of carb. Ensure upon reassembly the float is free to move. Float up no fuel flow, float down fuel flow.

Murray riding mower won't starter, new solenoid, new spark plug and trying start it from the start turn over but won't start and try from the solenoid still no go.

You need to pull the spark plug out, connect the spark plug wire and ground the plug to the motor and see if you have spark. If you have spark (bright blue) then it is a fuel problem. A yellow spark is and indicator of a coil issue.

Stalled out does not seem to get spark

First, you must find out if your getting spark or not. Remove plug, and ground it to the motor and pull cord, see if your getting spark. If you are, then your problem is your not getting fuel. If your not getting spark there are a couple of things that can cause this. !st, defective spark plug, Second, cable from control handle to engine may have stretched and is not releasing the kill switch. Disconnect the kill switch wire and check to see if you have spark, if you have spark, replace engine control cable. If with kill switch wire disconnected you still have no spark, you would have a defective magnito coil, which is rare, but does happen. This engine control cable kills the spark when you release the handle and also is the engine brake, It serves two functions.

When I pull the cord it makes a snapping sound and does not turn the engine over. If I pull it slowly it will turn the engine over but I can't pull it hard enough to start it.

Pull the spark plug, and then pull the motor thru a few pulls. Clean the pull with small wire brush, and reinstall. If the motor still pulls hard, it may have gotten moisture in the fuel.
drain fuel completely and pour fresh in.
