Problem with focusing

I have a reoccurring problem with my PV-GS120 Panasonic camcorder. Half of the time I turn it on, everything is out of focus, and I'm unable to zoom. After about a minute of this, the camera stops, and tells me to "Press the Reset Switch". After I press it, the camera turns back on, still out of focus. It makes a loud clicking noise for about thirty seconds, and then either goes back into focus, or prompts me to press the reset switch again. It used to only happen every once in a while, but it has become more frequent, and very problematic. I can hardly get anything done with it. Could anyone help me?

Sounds as though the focus motor worm gear is binding up. I have ,at times been able to take this assebly off the zoom lens ,oil it and reinstall it. very very light amout of floil, a very thin oil. Also the zoom motors worm gear binding will cause this problem, sometimes one of these motor/worm gear assemblies will have to be replaced.

ebay a parts camera - with a working camera ( most ' as is ' have tape problems ) , get jeweler ' s screwdrivers and take pictures ! as you begin disassembly - so you can put it back together ; a good technician can do the swap in 2 hours from start to testing ( your pictures will be interesting , whether you finish or not ! )

LCD kaput - anyone know of a panasonic recall?

The panasonic camcorder does not use the Sony CCD element. If the small viewfinder is showing the camera video, there's nothing wrong with the CCD imager. We have had numerous problems with the switch that controls the activation of the large LCD and the backlight inverter that powers it. When you open the LCD the small viewfinder should power down to conserve battery power. The large LCD should then illuminate, if not, shine a flashlight at the surface of the LCD and notice if the video is present, if so, the backlight or LCD harness is defective. Panasonic PV-GS31 won't FOCUS

Just a hunch as sometimes the micro will get scrambled so take off the battery as well as the battery or batterys for the date and time. and let the unit sit for 24 hours power back up as see if that cleared your error If not send away to get repaired.
