Sounds like a compressor problem and it is way cheaper to buy a new fridge or a decent used one sorry for the sad news
Testimonial: "Thank you so much! I've called GE and we have a service tech coming out today (Monday). As an FYI for anyone else who owns this model, the warranty covers any part of the sealed refrigerating system (the compressor, condenser, evaporator & all connecting tubing) that fails due to a manufacturing defect. The full coverage is for 5 years. For years 6-12, parts & labor will be $99.95 total. Just in case anyone needs to call them, their # is 800-444-1845. I'll post again after the tech gets here to let you know of the outcome. Again, thanks for your response."
The problem was not the compressor but the inverter which failed. Of course, it's not covered, so the cost to us was $350 (parts & labor). The tech said that the replaced part has a five year warranty. Why the heck did this part fail after only three years and it's NOT covered because it was the original?? GE will be getting a call from me tomorrow, arguing this point. Grrrr. Thanks for your troubleshooting.

This could be a sensor issue , that is what i would be changing in the first instance. The sensor connects into the same connector the vent door connects into.

Temporary solution.
Open the top hook. leave it open overnight.
Check in the morning if the temperatures comes back to normal. It works for me!
SOURCE: I have a side by side GE Monogram. When closing
the refrigerator should be leaning back enough to allow it to reclose. there are hieght adjusters behind the grill on front

I had the same problem. GE Man said that since the unit had been allowed to warm so much, we needed to empty it, unplug it, and totally leave it alone for 24 hours for any excess water to drain out. Then, we needed to plug it in and let it run with NO ITEMS INSIDE AND NO OPENING OF THE DOORS AT ALL for 48 hours. After that, we started using it again and it was Perfect!! I thought it was a lost cause, so this worked and didn't cost me a dime!!

Pull the refrig out , and remove the panel at the bottom , on the back . Behind this panel , will be the compressor and condenser " roll " coil , and the condenser fan motor . From your description of the problem , the fan motor in not operating , or the coils are extremely clogged with dust . If the fan motor is not operating , the most likely cause , is the main control board . You can try replacing the motor first , but , the board is most likely the cause . This is the electronic board , behind the 8 " X 10 " panel , behind the refrig also . If you remove the panel , and look at the board closely , You may see a burned part ( resistor ) . However , replacing the burnt part , will not solve the problem . The complete board will need to be replaced .
