Question about Dishwashers

1 Answer

My dishwasher cleans the bottom rack but doesn't get the top rack clean, and I'm not blocking anything or over loading. Any ideas?

    The water is only spraying a third of the way up the door. It seems there is not enough water pressure. There are no clogs, I have taken everything apart.

Hi

If the top rack of the dishwasher doesn't get clean, check your appliance to see if you can fix the problem.
First check the spray Arms to make sure the holes in the spray arms are free and clear of debris. Your dishwasher should have several spray arms, including one at the bottom of the tub, one under the top rack, and possibly a third spray arm on the top of the tub. Sometimes food and mineral deposits can block holes in the spray arms, preventing water from spraying effectively. If this occurs, warm some white vinegar and pour it into a spray bottle. Spray the holes with the vinegar and dislodge debris with a toothpick or large safety pin.

Then check to see if your dishwasher has clogged filters. Filters generally cover the drain valve area to catch debris as the water drains from the dishwasher. Many dishwashers have maintenance-free filters, but your dishwasher may have filters that need cleaning. Read your owner's manual before you perform any filter maintenance to avoid damaging your dishwasher.

Check your water temperature to make sure it's hot enough. Water that is under 120 degrees Fahrenheit may not be hot enough to clean dishes effectively. Turn your kitchen hot water tap on and wait until the water warms up completely. Fill a cup and measure the water temperature with a kitchen thermometer. If the water is less than 120 degrees Fahrenheit, turn your water heater up to 120 degrees.

Load the top rack properly. Place cups and bowls upside down in the rack and don't nest dishes because this can prevent water from reaching dishes. Don't overload the top rack. Instead, position each item so the dirty areas of the dishes will receive full contact with water spraying up from the main spray arm located beneath the top rack. Prevent items from hanging below the top rack, which could prevent the spray arm from rotating.

Top wond (rack) doesn't clean. Dishes are very dirty at the end of the cycle. However, the bottom rack is fine......please respond asap if possible. Thanking you in advance. Connie

Connie,, make sure in loading the dishwasher you have room for the soap and water to make it to the top rack, (older models) on newer models you have a sprayer just under the rack make sure the sprayers are working fully,, to clean them you can use a hard brush and vinegar,, let stand for 5 minutes and rinse off, also, you can run vinegar ( white) through your machine,, to help clean the jets,, use in place of the soap , then run a couple of times empty to remove and let over odor

The dishes wont come clean on top rack? the bottom rack is clean..we tried cleaning filter and making sure the wash arm wasnt hitting anything..we tried different wash settings..please help ...

Check that the top rotating arm jets are not block. These often get blocked by pieces of food or other solid particles, this is the normal problem.

Dishes will not come clean in top rack. Checked all areas for blockage, found none.

make sure that the rotator sprayer for top rack is not jammed or blocked, remove it and check.

ensure that your machine is not set to 1/2 load if in this setting the machine only washes bottom rack you need to have set for full load to wash both racks.

I hope this was helpful.

Dishes, glasses on the top rack dont get cleaned. The bottom rack is fine. What may be the problem?

Hi,

Probably a blocked spray arm. Remove the top spray arm and check and clean all the holes as this is where the water sprays out from to clean the dishes and glasses. When they are blocked you get poor wash results.

I know this isnt the same model, they dont carry your manual as of yet. But it does have some suggestions to look at on page 17. I had the same problem and I looked really carefully and found my sprayer arm was blocked. I cleaned it out and havent had a problem with it again. I do check it regular now.

Top Rack not cleaning

Hi,

Your concern "Top Rack not cleaning" often would indicate that the unit is not receiving sufficient water and the basin does not reach full level. Based on this, it may be required to check:
  • incoming water pressure;
  • water inlet valve;
  • incoming filter (if one is installed);
  • other areas to check are: heater (125 to 140 degress reached?, does the pump work? visually inspect the spray arm for any cracks, splits or possible leaks;
  • you may also want to verify that: the dishes are loaded properly and/or try a different detergent.
Additional insights may be sourced from here.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.
