I've got the same problem with my Dell Inspiron 1501. It has the original Dell genuine battery. And a full compliment of green LEDs indicating a full battery charged. The Battery LED is indicating a battery failure. So the next step is to replace it. The battery life is generally 300 to 500 discharge/recharge cycles. So it appears a replacement battery is due.
I haven't noticed a real difference in Quality between a Dell Branded Battery an ones from Battery Wholesalers. Generally, the wholesalers are cheaper but they may not have as good a warranty. Hi, It sounds like the batteries of the handset could be the problem.
Try replacing the batteries with other new batteries. I recently purchased a good brand of battery (not rechargeable), but they were down in their voltage straight out of the package.
Make sure the batteries are AAA NiMH batteries, and that they are charged for at least 16 hours.
Also check that you have inserted them the correct way +ve/-ve.
When you have inserted them, place the phone on the base and the handset should show you it is charging.
The quality of the battery determines the life of the battery. If the laptop battery is more than 3 - 4 years old then the battery could be worn out. Rechargeable batteries have a finite number of charge and discharge cycles and will lose their charge capacity over time, i.e. won't charge to 100% and gradually the charge reduces until the battery won't charge up at all. OR The battery shows a 100% charge but when the adapter is disconnected the battery drops off to zero capacity in a very short time. If the battery drops to an unacceptable charge level then the battery needs to be replaced. Rechargeable batteries will fail if stored in a discharged state for long periods.
If you purchased an aftermarket battery it will not work in the Dell computer because it is not a genuine, for safety reasons the Dell products are designed to work with their items to protect the customer and the manufactures from reprocussions
The best and cheapest solution is probably for you to purchase one of the aftermarket batteries you have been researching. While they may be physically compatible, original Dell components are often designed to identify themselves, and they tend to resist being mixed-and-matched. Aftermarket manufacturers have developed strategies to avoid the authentication process.
Before you give up, though, be sure to try this trick: simultaneously press Fn and either F2 or F3 (which ever one has the battery icon printed on it). If you've unwittingly pressed this combination, you may have disabled the charging process. Try it with BOTH batteries--the battery that originally shipped with the Inspiron 6400 may not be dead after all!
I have a dell ispirion 1501 GFN20F1 Quickset: the model#for the primary battery can't be determined /// Question will a udated bios mess up this computer
You have run into the same problem that a lot of us with Dell laptops find out the hard way. Yes in fact there is a small chip inside the charging system that will ensure that you will keep getting that message for as long as you try to use a non-Dell battery. As a matter of fact that same chip causes a lot of grief when it suddenly burns out and you start having problems with real Dell batteries. My advice would be to take the battery back ASAP. It does leave you stuck with Dell batteries and prices unfortunately.
It won't charge or work correctly if it's not the correct one and of the right voltage etc.I don't know how the battery even went in if it's not the Dell specified battery. If it went in and looked to fit maybe the battery itself is bad but its hard to say.
Well, with my Nikon, the light flashes to show the battery is charging. It stays on when it's charged. My battery and spare battery are 2 years old and working fine. I'd say wait till it stops flashing...hour or 2 in my case, though I never let them run down all the way.
This player shows the "Do not disconnect" message when it is doing something critical such as transferring tracks or updating firmware, which could corrupt the player if disconnected part way through.
The player shows the "OK to disconnect" when it is idle. As the message says, it's ok to disconnect, as the player will not corrupt if disconnected when it is idle.
These messages mean that the player does not need the "Safe to remove" procedure.
It is ok to disconnect part way through charging. Also the player will condition the battery once it is fully charged, so it's ok to leave it charging.
Occassionally batteries can "memorise" when constantly disconnect and reconnected without fully charging and discharging. To help prevent this, fully discharge the player (leave on until dead) and fully charge and condition (leave charging for about 12 hours) every couple of weeks or so.
