Your best bet would be to contact EV. Search for either EV or Telex. Telex will be easier to find and contact the repair department. Ask for the part availability and cost. They are very helpful there. Please let them know the model number as well.

My amp going into protection


This is caused by only a few things, shorted speaker wiring, shorted speaker voice coil or shorted output circuit in the amp, which is usually one of the large power transistors. Disconnect all the speakers and see if the protect comes on, if not you have a problem in the speaker circuit.

Takes a 9 volt DC 1 amp (1000 ma) center positive adapter. Not too common, search online and at Ebay.

I have an Onkyo TX-NR1000. After pushing very hard during a party one night, The Next day my kids turn it on and after it running for about an hour it went into protect mode then shut off. It had a smell...


This unit probably has separate output transistors which could be checked for shorts. I would also look for cracks in any of the transistors or IC's that may have overheated. Don't forget to check the speakers also as one or more of those could have a shorted voice coil that is feeding back to the amp.

My technics 1200 mk5 is blowing a 125V 250 mA fuse on the board just after the transformer


There must be a shorted power transistor in the power supply area. Check the voltage output of the transistor to determine which part is having a short circuit.

I have an Electrovoice MA-1212 That when I hook it up and power on all I get is a constant low frequency Hum. Checked the wiring and speakers on another amp and eliminated them? Any suggestions?


WIth the speakers disconnected, measure the terminals using a DC voltmeter. I suspect that there is DC voltage there where there should be 0V. If that is the case, the output transistors are shorted and need to be replaced.

Need to know how to repair my voicecoils


If you have removable voice coils, you can take them off and buy new ones, otherwise, the speaker is pretty much hosed. Voice coils require too much precision to be made by hand.

Amp Failure: There are many different ways that an amp can fail but the two most common failures are shorted output transistors and blown power supply transistors (< those are not blown). There are several types of protection circuits in amplifiers. The most common are over-current and thermal. The over-current protection is supposed to protect the output transistors. Sometimes it doesn't work well enough to prevent the failure of the output transistors but it will work well enough to shut the supply down before the power supply FETs are destroyed. If the amp remains in protect mode, goes into protect mode or blows the fuse as soon as the remote voltage is applied, shorted output transistors are almost certainly the cause. If the fuse protecting the amp is too large, if the protection circuit doesn't respond quickly enough or if the power supply is poorly designed, the power supply transistors may fail. If you see a lot of black soot on the power supply transistors (near the power transformer), the power supply transistors have failed. Soot on the board doesn't necessarily mean the transistors have failed. Sometimes, technicians don't clean up the mess from a previous failure. Transistor Failure/Checking Transistors: In general, when a transistor fails, it will either short (common for output AND power supply transistors) or open (common for power supply transistors). Transistors act like valves. They control the current flowing through a circuit. A shorted transistor acts like a valve that's stuck open (passing too much current). In the case of an output transistor, the shorted transistors tries to deliver the full rail voltage to the speaker output terminal. If you've ever seen a damaged amp that pushed or pulled the speaker cone to its limits when the amp powered up (common on some Rockford amplifiers), that was almost certainly due to a shorted output transistor. When checking transistors, you most commonly look for shorted connections inside the transistor. You do this by using a multimeter to look for low resistance connections between the transistor's terminals. Note: I used the terms short and open on the previous paragraph. Lab l4 bass amp smoked my speakers


Hi,
If your description is to be taken literally, and smoke did indeed come out of the speakers, your output transistors have shorted out, and put the full power supply voltage and current through your speakers.
The amp and the speakers will need to be serviced. The speakers will need new voice coils at the least.
