Question about JVC Handycam GR-DX77 Mini DV Digital Camcorder
Hi I have only recorded 9 hours of video with this rubbish after paying 500UKP for it. For the last two tapes it had jittery picture intermitentenly and after than it copletely went to back screen on LCD and viewfinder. Please help if you have had such experience, and also how much you think it could cost to repair. I rather to buy another camcoder (Sure NOT JVC) if it costs too much to fix. Many Thanks Reza
Sounds like dirty heads to me. Run a tape head cleaner in it for 10 seconds, let it sit for 30 seconds, run it again, let it sit and then run it a third time. If you still get jittery, drop outs, pixels, no pic, then you need to look into the camera tape path and look for a thin silver axle that the rubber pinch roller runs up against. If there is ANY brown residue on this (look with a flashlight and magnifying glass) scrape off with a plastic knife or pencil eraser. This pulls the tape though the tape path at a constant speed, not the take up reel. Sony tapes are fine, but it is suggested that you remain with the same tape brand and model as different tapes use different lubricants (theorized with some proof) and they are not 100% compatible with each other. I understand Panasonic tapes are very good.

Definitely, don't use Sony miniDV tapes! The fault occured because of rough handling of the mechanism during cassete insert or from dropping the camera.A guide arm inside the mechanism is deformed and the mechanism can be changed in whole for this.Contact a JVC authorized centre. The price for this can be half the price of a new camera. After all, it's your fault. This is a good camera if you know haw to handle/ use it!!!
