Good Morning-We have a Hitachi Projection TV (53SDX01B) bought about ten years ago and we got a new Bell ExpressVue HD 6131 Satelite box (HDTV) a few days ago. Since the installation , we cannot seem to get the colour right on it. The reds do not show up clearly and the screen is too blue. If we change the colour on the Tint to Complete Red the red colour (on a Coke bottle) appears brown. When we spoke to Bell ExpressVue yesterday they say the colour is the TV not their Satellite box. Please advise how to get the proper colour. The Setting is on Auto Colour and I'm not in front of the TV at this time, but I have my manual with me. I'll be away till Sunday April 20, 2009 so I'll deal with it on Monday. Therefore there is no rush Thanks

    Hi Kevin

I'll try that when I get back to the house next week. But we did the convergence last night and it did not give any errors and I do not know what part we are supposed to replace.

I'll get back to you regarding this next week once I try the solution.

How do we change to get more red into the TV-is there a control for that and where ?

    Regards

    Rajesh

    H Kevin

I'll get back to you next week.

I don't think I'll be able to change the Convergence I'll have to get someone else to do that. I thought there could be an adjustment which can be changed by programming.

    Regards

    Rajesh

Hi,
As you know this rear projection TV has 3 CRTs to produce colored picture and I'm afraid that CRTs got weak in result and causing incorrect / inappropriate colors as you mentioned above.
Red gun seems more weak then other green and blue guns.
you can slightly improve colors quality by adjusting Gain of all 3 CRTs but it requires expertise because you need to go in to service mode of TV. service manual has details about adjustment.

Please do not expect sharp colors performance from ten years old TV, what ever brand.

Hit "add a comment" button for further query / info.
Thanks.

Firstly check if it is TV or set top box issue, by connecting a dvd player and try play something.

If still you face the same issue convergence is out...

This is a common failure with Hitachi sets. Actually, you were charged a little less than most - which usually runs around $400 to fix up the convergence system.

You could probably do the replacement by yourself.

First, go to the owners manual and make sure you have gone through the convergence set up. When pushing the magic focus button be sure that the set does inaugurate the convergence routine.

Your model has hundreds of parts listed at the www.partstore.com site, find the part number on the case of the convergence ICs and search for it. They cost around $30 to $50 each and there are two of them of the same part number (usually). They must be mounted with great care.

Let me know the status ..... Kevin.

If it is a TV issue then after replaceing the convergence ICs all the color will be fine.

The color looks red and the picture is not clear. Just started this morning. We bought the tv in September of 2000. Do you know what the cost of this tv was new?

Hello,

This problem is very common with rear projection TV's.

It is related to one or more of the colour guns being out of alignment or needing to be replaced. The only way to correct this issue is to have a technician come in and fix it or bring it into a repair center. I personally would suggest purchasing a new TV. The cost of getting them aligned is usually more then a basic LCD.

The original MSRP was 4100 I believe.

Hope this helps

Need help locating a box to make my TV receive true HDTV

You Dont need one your set is HD. So when the switch happens you are good to go. The only TVs that are going to need converter boxes is those who do not have HD or only have antenna.

Surround Sound Installation

The Hitachi 50UX57B is a 50 inch standard projection TV with a standard screen. It is not HD ready. If you need it, I think I can download the owner's manual (in PDF format) from Hitachi and foward it to you.
