Can not scan. keep receiving message "unable to open file".

I am trying to scan on my canoscan lide20 and I keep receiving the message "unable to open file". I am not trying to open a file, I am just trying to scan to a file. Any ideas why this is happening? I was able to scan fine yesterday.

Try to reset the file link (toolbox CS -> settinf -> save -> image file) where the scanned file will be saved.

I had this problem running Canoscan in Vista. Solved by starting Canoscan toolbox by running as adminstrator.

Error message

Hi toolpusher

Try going to CanoScan Toolbox > Settings and reset the 'defaults' button at bottom... this will restore factory settings and hopefully fix your problem... The other error message you can expect to get is "unable to scan - insufficent memory, check your **** space' (or something similar)... same fix works for both! ...Have had both messages on mine, sounds like a semi-regular conflict on some sort, but seems to be easily fixed. Good luck :-)

Unable to select TWAIN source

tried uninstallin and installin canon scanner drivers..nothing works..still seeing unable to select twian source..

so i tried an alternative..here we go..
on vista 64 os/vista any version..click Start>All programs>Windows fax and scan

next click new scan on top and that got me going.

some say there are issues with the way usb talks to old scanners with new operating systems like mine (vista 64). hope it helps until you find the actual cure.

Canoscan lide 70

Head for the Canoscan Toolbox and click on "Settings".
Under "select folder where temporary files are saved", click on "browser".
Choose where you want the scanned item to be sent and then click 'OK".
This works for me.

LiDE 600DF - Unable to scan

Hi Peter

Have had the same problem, seems to come and go a bit... Quickest & easiest fix is to go to CanoScan toolboox > Settings then press the 'defauls' button at bottom... this sets everything back to factory settings and should fix your problem. Cheers.

Scanner won't scan

Hello, It may be possible that the error msg that you are receiving may be referring to another error. 1st thing I would try is checking the resolution, in some cases if the resolution is too high it may result with numerous issue's if your random access memory (RAM) is not sufficient enough to accommodate the resolution that you attempting to scan with. Try reducing the resolution, also try a different file type, either jpeg or tiff etc..,if all failes check to see if you have the latest driver(s) update for your scanner.
