N64 light comes on, but nothing comes on screen

My N64 worked a week ago, but now, when I turn it on, the red light comes on, but nothing pops up on the screen. The AV cables are fine and plugged in to the right place (they work with my SNES and gamecube) Thanks so much!

Make sure that the game you are trying to play is free of dust and other obstructions.  I know that the label on the back of the game says that you should never blow on the edge connector, but it doesn't harm the game. (Trust me I've been cleaning the connectors for years now, and it hasn't been damaged.  After you throughly rid the game of dust, do the same with the edge connector on the N64.  Simply hold the opening open and blow the dust out.  This should work.   Please give feedback!! Hope this helps!!

How to stop the N64 from automatically turning itself off

Well if the console had blanked out on you and the red light is still on getting power. THis has happened to me half way through perfect dark while I was playing it froze and then the screen went black and then it went to the tv screen saying no siginal it means that the expansion pack has died on you then. So i tried a new expansionpack for my 12 year old N64 console at that time and it worked again. It could just be a easy problem then.
5 STARS UIF THIS SOLUTION WAS HELPFUL.

N64 power light comes on, but nothing comes on the screen.

It appears that your power supply is fine (you still get a power light) however your internal game board has a problem. I realize you said that you have eliminated all the other components (very smart process of elimination) so the only thing that has not been swapped is the console itself. I think you've already come to the conclusion that the N64 needs to be repaired, and you just need to hear it from someone else. Unfortunately, the console needs to be repaired. Again, you did a great job isolating the problem, so you've done all the hard work.

The red light comes on for my n64 but nothing happens

Hi there, At a guess Id say the contacts on the Game Cartridge are dirty, you could try a couple of things:
  1. Blow on the contacts on the Cartridge and then push firmly into the N64 - Test game, if doesn't work move to next step
  2. Get some rubbing alcohol solution and a cotton bud and gently clean the contacts on the cartridge - Test game, if doesn't work move to next step
  3. Get some rubbing alcohol solution and a cotton bud and gently clean contacts in the N64 console cartridge slot - Test game
Cheers

N64 turns on but nothing shows up on the TV

I have the same problem and from what I've read elsewhere on the net, it seems to be easily amendable by one of two solutions.

- You can re-tune a channel on your TV (not one of the main ones) and it will find the frequency for your N64 to run on

- If you had a gamecube the yellow, red and white output cables that came with that are (apparently) compatible with both the N64 and SNES and that way you wont have to tune your TV.

Unfortunately for me, I did not have a GC and my TV will not re-tune due to the button on the controller not working! Good luck.
