Question about Kenmore 53222 / 53224 / 53229 Side by Side Refrigerator

1 Answer

Fridge and freezer at room temp. lights, fan work. vents clear.

Have taken off back inside panel in freezer. everything looks good, the fan is blowing, the vent to the fridge is clear, connections appear good. the cooling tubes located below the fan unit are not cold. the outside back and sides of unit are clean and not blocked. guessing some solid state component has failed- any help available? Thanks- gar

i opened up the lower back of the unit. it's pretty clean, the fan (condenser fan?) is blowing steadily. the refrigerant container (compressor?) clicks on and kind of hums to itself at an approximate cycle of 15 seconds on, 90 seconds off. after 15 minutes, no change in fridge/freezer temperature.

Bottom freezer - Refrigerator top not cooling- All vents from freezer open , no food in the way. Is there a fan ?

Yes there is and it is located in the base panel of the fridge. Look for a set of slotted vents in the inside of the fridge and the fan is located behind those slots. This fan uses the freezer temp to control the fridge temp.

Good luck hope this helped you some

Fridge not cold

you have a fan motor and blade located between the fridge and freezer. What this fan does is regulates the temp of the fridge from the coldness of the freezer. If this fan is out the fridge will be warm. The fan is losacted in the space between the fridge and freezer on the inside near you temp control switch. Look at the top of the fridge on the inside and you will see a set of vents. The fan is located behind these slotted vents. Take care in removing the plastic cover and remove the motor. Take model and serial# to an appliance parts house for proper replacement.

Hope this helped you some

Make sure this fan is running. You may have to hold the door switch in for it to run. There is a flap you adjust with the fridge temp. control. Make sure it's opening and closing when you adjust the fridge temp.
The problem could be the electronic control if you have one or the mechanical linkages.

Maytag P MFD2561HEB model the frig is not cold but the freezer is fine. How do we set the frig control?

If the evaporator coils behind the back panel of the freezer are icing up because of auto defrost failure that will stop the circulation of cold air and eventually affect the freezer too.

check defrost timer, defrost heater, defrost thermostat. In most newer models the timer has been replaced by an electronic control board. If the heater and thermostat are ok it’ll be the control.

You can turn the defrost timer till it clicks and everything shuts down. The heater should now come on. If it does, replace the timer. If it doesn't, check the heater and defrost thermostat. Turn the timer again till everything starts back up to end the defrost cycle.
