Standing Water in Dishwaaser

If water remains in the dishwasher after the cycles end, check the kitchen sink drain to make sure it's not clogged. If there's no clog, try pressing the Cancel button; most dishwashers run the drain pump when the Cancel button is pressed.
Check the dishwasher drain line, drain path and drain pump.

Sounds like the wash/drain selector valve might be stuck. my Kenmore operating solenoid rusted and hung up. I cleaned and oiled it up. You can also have something that got into the valve and it won't close, or an obstruction in the drain hose or the drain pipe connector. Something is restricting the flow or the pump itself may have a bad impeller. Does it wash with vigor or has it lost a little oomph and sound different? Does it leave any debris on the dishes?

By my experience on Washer Machines, I would say that the problem are bacteria and mildew growing in the machine, not exactly in the drain or drum from the machine. Mildew can grow everywhere.

Oh, by the way, don't even think about bypassing any sensor from your machine. You don't want to wake up tomorrow and find a pool in your house, right?

To kill mildew and bacteria you may want to try some simple solutions:

* Keep the lid up between washes so that bacteria and mildew won't grow in it. Pour a bottle of vinegar in hot water and run it though the machine on a heavy load wash. When it is finished, leave the lid up.
* Didn't help? then pour a box of baking soda in it and running it with hot water cycle. Try running it without clothes.

... I mean, Run the washer machine without clothes inside. (Oh my gosh, I should go to bed, it's too late for giving advice on FixYa)

* If the smell continues Pour a big bottle of peroxide hydrogen (the 3% one from the drug store) and run a heavy load wash. Be sure not to use good clothes, it will get white. if that does not work, u may have a more serious problem. Perhaps the machine needs to receive maintenance and spray some peroxide hydrogen where the mildew is growing.

Without knowing the model of this GE ? dishwasher, it is very hard to be specific. Most DWs have a float/switch that sense when the dishwasher is filled and empty of water. They can fail.
If you can run a cycle without the dishwasher over flowing but it simply does not fully drain, I would pull the lower spray arm and the filter beneath that arm. Look closely for debris that could be blocking the pump. SOme dishwashers simply have a timer that controls each phase of the wash, including the drain cycle. If something is blocking the drain pump, an obstruction could cause this problem.
