I have a Sony KP53HS10 projection tv which was purchased in 2001. When I turn it on it takes forever to come on. Sometimes it says Video 1. Not all the time. But what bothers me most is when the red light on the bottom front of the t.v. blinks 5 times, rest, 5 times, rest. You get the picture. I know I have extended warranty but my husband had the file and I haven't seen it since. Can I call the store I purchased it and they can tell me? It's a 2001 t.v. Never gave us any problems. I'm on Comcast and have tivo?

Re: Husband died and took the manual with him?
CHECK THAT ALL THE CRT TUBE BASE PCBS ARE PROPERLY SEATED ON THEIR PINS, IF ANY BECOME DISCONNECTED THE AKB CIRCUIT SHUTS DOWN THE POWER SUPPLY.
This is a simple job to do the hardest part is removing all the screws from the rear of the set.
A 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

first of all sony uses blinks as a means of an error code, on older models like yours could be weak CRTs, try turning up the screen controls a little, if the picture comes on the CRts are weak and AKB is holding them dark. the controls are in the front behind the cover.
possibly you have no high voltage, D board or splitter is bad, bad convergence ICs will cause NP, check the 3.15amp fuses if any are blown replace ICs both stk392-110 and fuse to fix.
First I have to say that the fluid is what keeps the tube cool, if you use the TV without replacing the fluid, the tube will eventually burn out. Now the fluid has to be replaced, I would suggest that you have a qualified TV technician do this. The fix for this problem is to reinstall the seals on the tube refill the coolant, and reinstall the tube. Coolant can be purchased from the manufacture or from a parts supply store.
Try (with your remote) hit Display + Channel 5 + Volume - + Power hit each key within 1 sec of each other and the tv should go into error check mode on the screen and display some data, record that and google.
The service manual is for the technician who knows how to troubleshoot electronic circuits using the schematic diagram and test equipment. There is no such thing as a trouble shooting section in Sony service manuals. My best advice would be if you have no solid state repair experience, play it safe and call in a pro to assist you in this repair. Good Luck
Every person I know who purchased this very expensive unit has had this problem early in the life of the TV. Sony is no help. Sony will suggest you take it to a repair facility. Sony from years ago is not the Sony of today. It was expensive to purchase and it will gouge you with repairs. Your choice. I eventually discarded my set and purchased a JVC. These rear projection TV's are garbage and Sony knows it and they dont care. Seems like the last for only a few years and then major problems occur. My solution replace it!
