Power button light blinks but does not turn on. Have checked power source and changed power cord. Unplugged and held button in for several seconds. Rrtried with no.luck

there are only two things that can cause this problem
first being that, the RAM module slot is dusty and as a result the RAM module is not making proper contact or it is not securely fixed and so cannot perform the normal task of powering up the system. if this is the case, you have to open the CPU, take out the RAM module and dust it and also dust the slot properly
if that doesnt work after fixing it back tightly, your motherboard is damaged and you have to send it to a repairer for proper check-up
hope this helped you?

Acer x3200 will not boot up after the scrolling microsoft bar. It goes to a black screen and does not do anything. Any suggestions? I've tried rebooting several times but it just does the same thing.

try this....
you need to open the machine......before you open it.....
remove all of the power cables / all power supply must be removed...then open the machine
look for the RAM cards(1 or 2 nos).....they are 1 inch by 3 inch board with some ICs embeded on them.....they will be fixed in a RAM slot with two white locking clips on either ends.....
unclick the clips by sliding them away.....(youtube will help you with a video of how to do that)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SiFIgSQOY7g&feature=fvw

remove the RAM cards by pulling them out one by one.....keep them aside....clean the golden metal contacts with a little damp/wet cotton cloth or use a ear bud cleaner with some aftershave (dont use any other alcohol)
do the same cleaning for the slot on the motherboard.....

Now keep pressing the PC's power button for some time say 30-40 sec.....
also do ON OFF...ON OFF.....click click.....go on for some time....
now put back the RAMs in the slot...note....the RAM cads go in only to the RAM slot only one way....align the semicircle cut on the RAM card with the middle hub on the RAM slot....
push it down with your fingers....the lock on the sides will go down by itself when you push the cads.....if not then just push them down.....
close the PC and connect power and switch on......

no luck.....next option.....if there are two RAM cards then try to use only one card at a time and then interchange the card.....

still not working
you may need to change the RAM cards with a new card...
the reason is....
the Windows boot files are not able to load the WinXP system files on to the RAM for the system to run....

My dell 4700 diagnostic lights A&B are yellow, C&D are green & the monitor is dark. I can not get anything to show up on the monitor. Everything has power & was working normally yesterday....

the LED indication is a Memory failure. Make sure when inserting RAM that the power is unplugged and you press and hold the power button till all power is discharged from the motherboard. WHen inserting RAM, make sure levers are int he full back position and you press down firmly with both thumbs till the module snaps in place and the levers snap up in the locked position on their own (DO not pull up the levers)
If there is no change trying RAM modules in slots individually, then either all RAM modules are damaged, or the slot is bad, in which case a motherboard is required

Changed 1GB RAM to 2GB and now Toshiba Tectra M5 screen is black and HDD doesn't seem to connect! I put the original memory back in, it still doesn't work. Any help would be very appreciated!

It may be the way you are installing the RAM. as a general rule for portables, you install RAM in this manner.
  1. Disconnect power and remove the battery then press and hold power button for 10 seconds to ensure all stored power is drained from the system.
  2. When inserting RAM modules in to the slow, insert them at a 30 degree angle until the gold contacts are completely obscured. Then once fully seated into the slot, press down until the retainers latch.
  3. Connect power and test.
If you changed RAM while power was connected to the system, you may have damaged the RAM modules
