Same problem. The computer says that there is a problem with the connection, but the watch reads "transfer complete." This is a deal-killer for me. I've cleaned the contacts, re-installed the software and updated from the website. Any other suggestions are more than welcome.

I am having problems downloading info from my Garmin Forerunner 305 too. I keep getting the message "As this is the first time you are using the Garmin Training Centre you need to connect your deivce...." The device is connected and recognised by the PC.

I have tried downloading the latest software. Removing and reinstalling software and drivers.

I have downloaded and installed Sportracks Software and this has allowed me to import some, but not all of the data on my Garmin.

I have exactly the same problem and have taken the following steps to address the problem to no avail.
1. Changed USB Lead
2. Reinstalled the software and drivers
3. Disabled Fire wall
4. Installed on a different computer.
Given the steps Ive taken I can only conclude its the unit itself and its "handshake" with the software.

Hi,

Had identical problem (incredibly frustrating, glad I didn't have the heart rate monitor attached !) I did the following to resolve the issue :-

. Uninstalled the GTC
. Reinstalled it from the supplied disk
. Updated the Forerunner with the latest v2.8 software and GPS v3.00 from the Garmin website.
. Updated the Garmin USB drivers
. Updated the GTC with the :-
Training Center For Windows software version 3.3.2 as of November 7, 2007

This was on the Garmin site :-

Still early days, however the PC and forerunner are at least talking to each other :-)

Mark.

Just Cracked it. You need to go onto the Garmin Support Centre and download the latest software for the unit. Its has 100% solved the problem.

Best regards
