Yesterday i bought a 1989 900i SAAB. Fab car!!!
maybe i'm having a blonde moment or perhaps it's early onset dementia, but i cannot locate the dashboard light switch/button!!!???
i feel like a fool, but i had to drive 400 klms home from adelaide in the dark after i bought the car. CAN ANYONE HELP ME LOCATE THE LIGHTS?
thanks in advance
sharon
You wont find a switch for the dash lights on a 900 as they come on automatically or remain on continuosly due to the long winter months in scandanavia, the liklyhood is that the dash bulbs have blown and you can also check the dash bulb control fuses. atb markj 93turbo
This might help... go to this webpage... there is a picture of the switch.... http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/details/QQSaabQQ900QQScan-TechQQHeadlight_SwitchQQ19821998QQW0133-1610845.html
did you happen to buy that in canberra ?
please take a moment to rate this solution.. thanks

there should be a rheostat you can turn... that increases the brightness of the dash lights. be that as it may... if they are burnt out ... you remove the two screws holding in the speaker next to the instrument panel and pull that out. you will see a row of lights at the bottom and two at the top... those are the two you want to change. the holders turn about a 1/4 turn and then come out. you remove the bulb... make sure the connection is clean and insert the new bulb. then you put it back into the instrument panel giving it a 1/4 turn the opposite to how you removed it.

further to that... as you open the driver door there is a fuse panel at the side of the dash board... rather confusing how they name them but you should check fuses 17.18 and 34 to make sure none of them are blown... take care

hey bunnydawg,
there is no switch on the signal stalk - it has the blinkers plus high beam.
the switch you referred to on the webpage has the parker lights, normal headlights plus lights off. there is a symbol (looks like a sun) at the bottom of that switch but the dial (arrow) doesn't go around that far.
i assumed the dashboard lights would come on when i turned on the headlights. maybe they should, but i have a blown bulb? what do you think?
i know very little about cars & even less about european models, however, i just love this saab - so funky, i'm certainly a convert. i didn't buy her in canberra, picked her up in adelaide. i live in whyalla - 380klms northwest. she is cherry red, in great nick & cost me $1000. i've named her ruby.
thanks for your advice, if you have anymore ideas about how to light up the dashboard please let me know.
cheers,
sharon
hi robert,
thanks for your suggestions.
fuses in my car are located on passenger side under the bonnet. will check them today.
not sure what a rheostat is, but am visiting a friend with knowledge of cars, so will consult her.
much appreciated,
sharon
still looking for the exact location... but see if there is a switch you can turn on the same stalk that your turn signal uses
it should be on the radio set or a tiny thing to the right of the dash
