SOURCE: E 18 problem

Your A410 problem really sounds like it might be a defective CCD imager. Canon would normally fix this for you for free, including free shipping both ways. http://camerarepair.blogspot.com/2007/11/canon-digital-cameras-showing-black.html
http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=PgComSmModDisplayAct&fcategoryid=225&modelid=13390&keycode=2112&id=29819
Unfortunately this is only for applicable cameras A40, A60, A70, A75, A80, A85, A95, A300, A310, S1 IS, S60, S200, S230, S330, S400, S410, S500, SD100, SD110
But you may want to contact canon anyways to see if they will help.
As for your SD500 e18 issue,
The E18 error is fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension.
Here's some things that you can do to try to correct it. Have already fixed several cameras with this problem by using these methods:

SOURCE: Black screen problem with Canon PowerShot SD 750

Did you accidentally press the DISP button on the back of your camera? This manually turns the screen on and off to save batteries. Try pressing this button one more time to see if it turns the screen back on.

My SD600 states memory card full when I use the original SD 16M card. There are 6 pictures on it and will not take more. What settings should I use to correct that issue?

The original card that came with your camera was very low capacity. As you've discovered, it can only hold a few pictures, and was only included with the camera to show that the camera works. You really should purchase a new SD memory card. These are very inexpensive (here's some from Amazon) and will literally hold hundreds of pictures. BUT make sure that you purchase a 2GB or small SD card, and NOT a 4GB or larger SDHC card. Newer SDHC cards were designed after your camera, and although they look exactly the same, they will not work with your camera.

I purchased a used cannin SD 1300 digital camara and would like to know how to view pictures in the camera or how can I pull up each picture and look at it.

Press the Playback button (marked with a right-pointing triangle) located above the circular cursor pad.

Full details are in the "Viewing images" section of the manual (page 28 in my copy). If you need a manual, you can download one at

I have a Canon SD780IS camera and now notice dark spots on the pictures. I tried cleaning the front of the lens with a Q-tip but they did not go away or move around. I have 2 such cameras . One with 6-8...

to thansen 3:
Yes, eventually everyone who owns this camera will see these dust orbs in every photo they take once the problem appears, and the problem continues to worsen until you will see no image at all. I've had my SD780IS for about 2 years. I was very proud of what this camera could do until the dust appeared and discovered there seems to be no do-it-yourself solution. Canon will "fix" this under warranty.
When Canon returns your camera, it will no longer take sharp photos, but the dust orbs will be gone..... for a little while. Soon, we will all tire of sending these crappy, expensive little cameras back and forth to Canon. All of us will eventually toss this expensive junk and find another expensive Canon to use for about one year before we toss that one too.
The spots appear due to the complex external lens assembly which by its very function (moving in and out) invites particulate invasion. Canon deliberately allows us no recourse for practical maintenance outside of never using the camera. Why didn't I consider this before I purchased? Well, I trusted a corporation whose mission I thought was to provide durable high quality product. The plastic disposable film cameras of yore were an honest version of what we have purchased here.
You may notice a tiny hole on the ring surrounding the lens. My guess is the Canon techs insert a $.25 tool here which with some certain push and twist of the fingers will pop the lens assembly, exposing the CCD and rear lens element for cleaning. Effective reassembly may be another matter altogether as proven by the less sharp images I experienced upon return of the SD780IS from Canon. I have yet to locate any good solution addressing this difficulty. However, my wife still likes this camera despite her 20/950 vision. Some people are very easy to please. When she notices the spots, I'll look into getting her another camera.

Try resetting the camera. Go the setup menu , reset all, OK.
Reset cannot be done if the camera is connected to the computer or printer.

LCD screen not sharp / focusing when taking pictures

This camera is ancient by today's standards, at least 8 years old.

Your focus problem is that the back display is very low resolution, so it will never show a sharp image. 9MP should give a decent image when you view it on a computer. If not, you probably need to part with the camera. it is not worth much these days anyway.

Canon sd 550 (and sd 200) shutter speed

If you check out a review site such as www.steves digi cams. com or even the Canon site to check out the spec of the camera to discover what shutter speeds are available. When shooting fast moving subjects try panning the camera on the object as you press the release this will[to a degree] keep the primary image sharp[ish] whilst blurring the background
