Question about Hitachi 50V500 50 in. HD-Ready LCD Television

The color on my hitachi 50v500 is dull and not sharp! Help

My hitachi is a couple years old. the color on the tv has been very dark. with HD i was expecting viberent colors but so far no luck! Do i need a part for my tv so i can get a brighter sharper picture??? someone please help me! caleb

Try replacing the lamp first, If your lamp is over a year old. Next Clean the optical lens. This is kinda of involved just getting into the unit to clean.You might want to contact an authorized servicer for this.

Hitachi rear projection LCD with yellow blobs on screen


I have the same tv and the same problem, but my yellow is a cloud around the outside of the screen. My tv was recently moved, and a repair shop told me that sometimes in a move these tvs light engine takes a shock and causes a yellow "band" on the screen. I am hearing that these light engines are not cheap either. Hope this helps you.

Our 4 year old Hitachi tv fan has been very loud. It even turned off a couple times so we blew some air on it. It's still so loud that we need to turn our volume up. Can this be fixed?


I would hesitate the blame the noise on a fan. It could very well be the Color Wheel in the Optical Engine making the noise. If this is the case , the Optical Engine would have to be replaced. This is a very expensive repair and I recommend you call Hitachi to see if they could help you find a Service Repair Facility near you to verify the cause of the noise and maybe even help with repairs. Their Customer Service Number is 1800-HITACHI.

My 61" hitachi rear proj has a very dark picture.


It sounds that lamp in TV is weak and not throwing enough light to bright the screen for good image.
How old is this TV and did you replaced its Lamp recently?
If lamp has not been replaced yet or in last 2-3 years, replace it.

Limited colors (almost like VGA)


You have a defective light engine. Replacing the bulb will not solve the problem. We just went through this so here's what you need to do. Call Hitachi's customer service relations (not customer service) at 800-654-7013 and tell them what the set is doing and that you have a bad light engine. Hitachi will act like they have not heard of this but will give you the names of certified dealers in your area. Once you have a tech come out and confirm the problem, call Hitachi back, at the number listed above and they will call the dealer to confirm the problem. Once they confirm it with the dealer, they will send out a brand new light engine to the dealer ( at Hitachis expense, around $1500) and the tech will come to your home and install it.

Here's the kicker, if you're not still under warranty, you will have to pay the install. Our install was $400 but worth it to us on a $
$3600 set we've only had 3 years and we've loved. PLEASE DO NOT let any dealer or department store tell you that you have to pay for this part. Hitachi has not recalled the part but they are paying for it. It sounds like from some of the other post on this board that some dealers and department stores where the set was bought are trying to make money off of the free part Hitachi is sending and PLEASE deal only with Hitachi's customer relations department at the 800 number I listed above. Hitachi's regular customer service will be no help to you. Good Luck:)

Also, YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE UNDER WARRANTY FOR HITACHI TO COVER THE PART. You only pay the install. Our TV is 3+ years old. They are doing this in hopes of not having to be required to do a recall on this part (would cost them lots more). It should run pretty smoothly with Customer Relations.
