Hard drives don't come with an operating system installed on them. If you have the recovery discs from the computer then you can use those to reinstall Windows onto the new drive. If you don't have the discs you will need to contact the manufacturer (Toshiba) and order a new set of the discs.

Another option would be to take it to your local repair store and find out if they have any OEM discs they can use to reinstall Windows for you.

Hope this helps :)

Screen turns on while booting, after a minute or 2, goes blank.

Sounds like windows is hanging up or the hard drive is bad. Try to reinstall windows. If you have files you want to save;
(1) you can install windows on a new hard drive
(2) install windows on a different part of the hard drive. (You'll be asked by windows where you wanna install)
(3) remove the hard drive and copy files to your/a friends PC.
If the windows disk is in the CD/DVD drive and still get a black screen then your hard drive is bad.

My toshiba satellite L675d error 10-f12-0003

You may have a bad hard drive. If you are able to log into Windows, run Western Digital Data Lifeguard Diagnostic software.
1. Download Data lifeguard:
Hard drive analysis software
2. Install the software and run an extended test on your main partition.

If the test fails, then your hard drive is bad.1. Purchase a new hard drive from a local Best Buy or other2. If you don't have the original restore CDs, order them from Toshiba

When turning on copier it starts on the start up screen (has a picture of copier). It never changes and says printer is offline for printer as well...

On Toshiba's this is almost ALWAYS a hard drive failure. Toshiba loads the "firmware" or operating system on the hard drive so when it goes bad the copier will turn on or say please wait but that is all. You will need a Toshiba tech to come out and replace the drive as well as load the firmware onto the new drive. You can not simply replace the drive on these machines like you can most other copiers.
Good Luck and Thank You for using Fixya.

My toshiba satellite A215-S5837 when trying to bootup gives error message cannot boot do you want to start from last good boot. I say yes it still does not boot just goes so far and then I get clicking...

once you get a bad sector it usually spreads like a virus through your hard drive. the best thing to do is to buy a new hard drive, install it and do a clean install of windows. you can buy or borrow a hard drive enclosure and rescue your documents from your old drive but isolating the bad sector doesn't work, especially if your drive is making a noise

I have a Toshiba R15, when turned on after toshiba

your hard drive is shot... go to toshiba service center and have them recover your data and put it on a new hard drive... and then install that hard drive... the other possibility and this is cheaper and might actually work... replace your ram memory... if that is not functioning it can simulate a hard drive failure...

Will not boot up

So I"m assuming that you're able to boot up off a Windows disc? If that is the situation then your hard drive is bad. That is the reason it is hanging when you first start the computer is that it can't find a bootable device. When you try to install Windows and it can't find a partition is because your hard drive is bad and can't be seen. Need to buy a new one.

My toshiba does not boot up

I do not think it is a HDD problem. When you turn it on, are you able to see something on the screen or not? If not, then it is probably problem of the motherboard.

Sattelite A50 has an 42000 rpm IDE Harddisk, buy 40GB or 80 GB.

Toshiba startup

This is one of two things, 1- an operating system error or glitch, a system repair with your recovery or operating system disc will fix it, or 2- a hard drive failure. If the system repair doesn't work, then reformat the hard drive and install a new operating system. If the drive will not format, or you have any issues during or after the install, then the hard drive is bad and will need replaced.
