"you changed to hard drive." Hard drives are shipped blank, like the problem you are having. You need to buy a copy of your flavor of OS to install on the hard drive. Learn how to correctly say what your problems are, as there are many.

When i tried to reboot the toshiba laptop to factory the HD came up black and the mouse pointer was visible, but the windows reboot would not start. HD failure?

Go to BIOS setup and check out the mode of the hard disk use. Usually must be AHCI, sometimes IDE. Every change after installation makes Windows unusable.

When turning on copier it starts on the start up screen (has a picture of copier). It never changes and says printer is offline for printer as well...

On Toshiba's this is almost ALWAYS a hard drive failure. Toshiba loads the "firmware" or operating system on the hard drive so when it goes bad the copier will turn on or say please wait but that is all. You will need a Toshiba tech to come out and replace the drive as well as load the firmware onto the new drive. You can not simply replace the drive on these machines like you can most other copiers.
Good Luck and Thank You for using Fixya.

Hard drive

have you made any changes to your bios? usually when i see this come up the bios has been changed or the hard drive has gone bad. you can try unscrewing the panel on the bottom of your toshiba that has a cylinder looking symbol next to it to check the hard drive. but most of the time like i said, this happens is because the hard drive is not being recognized/checking in during P.O.S.T. which usually means bad hard drive

Good Luck!

Did you mean it look like this in your screen:

Toshiba (I) and then Game Drive (H)

Then on My Computer, Right click your mouse, then select to SORT IT by Name. This will make H before I.

Thus this help.

My laptop currently has a Toshiba MK8025gas hard drive, but it has been crash dumping randomly and I want to change hard drives. I also want to change to a 160GB hard drive. Is the Toshiba MK1652GSX...

The main factors in upgrading your drive are interface type and physical size, specifically the thickness of the drive. I haven't had any issues come up from substituting a drive of a different RPM yet. BTW I have a drive that's the same model as yours, it came from a computer that acted up like you're describing, the owner didn't worry about it, and one day it decided it wasn't going to wake shouldn't have any trouble going from an 80gb to a 160gb drive.I believe your drive is an IDE interface, So just make sure you don't order a SATA, toshiba has comparable drives in either interface, I'd look for a good warranty period if the prices are about equal on the drives you're considering
