I will walk you through checking on your sound card.
Select the start button, control panel
Select Classic view if not default, Open Administrative Tools
Open Computer Management
Select Device Manager from the pane on the left
Expand Sound, Video and Game Controllers
A) If there is a problem with your soundcard, there will be a yellow or red marking next to the device. Right click the problem device and select update driver. If the most recent driver is installed, right click again and select uninstall. Select next until the wizard is finished and reboot. Upon restarting you will the found new hardware wizard. Hit next with all the defaults, allowing microsofft to search for the most suitable driver for you. This will fix many problems with a soundcard.
B) If no device is present, you need to buy and install a sound card.
Another thought, if the driver for the soundcard was never installed, it can be downloaded from lenova's website (IBM Thinkpad) and has a package that will install for you. Here is the link:
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.w... If you have XP, the file you want is 1ya210ww.exe right in the middle of the page, click on it and the download will prompt. After downloading, it will ask you if you want to open or run. Say yes. It will install a driver for the soundcard. Reboot and test sound.
Did this fixya or do you need more help?
Click Next, next etc following the program defaults until you can select finish

Hi, I got to expand S,V,G controllers. There was no 'sound card', there was a Legacy Audio Driver, is this it? It had an option for 'update driver', then asked for Hardware install Cd which we havn't got. I clicked update and it tried and came back with 'wizard couldn't find a better match'. any ideas, Thanks
Great, I'll try this
I clicked on the link and a little exclamation point in yellow flashes on the hand
I pasted the link in the brouser and downloaded the driver, just rebooting now
Hi JL, I'm still without sound. The set up wizard said it downloaded the program after I ran it, and said 'refer to installation instructions to complete process'. Do I need to do this? How can I get to the 'install instructions'? Thanks Paul
Hi JL, I ran that through and checked it. There was no 'sound card' on the list. I learnt lots checking that out so that was good. We were wanting the sound to use Skype. There are head sets that have a USB connection. Will these work in this situation without a card? Many thanks Paul
I have a problem similar to this. I have an IBM t43 that has no sound and no sound card listed under device manager. I have tried installed the proper drivers for a t43 and when i install them i get "
