1 Answer

Not to computer saavy so please keep it simple. I have a Sony Vaio VGC RA840G desktop with 5.1 surround sound. Also have a Samsung LN46A850 S1F HDTV. Also a home theater system. This is hooked up to cable tv. I hooked up HDMI cable from cable box to HDMI port on tv. Picture and theater sound worked. Hooked up VGA cable from computer to VGA on tv. This was with a Gigaware USB powered VGA splitter. Ran a cable from headphone port on compter to audio port on tv ( next to VGA port). Put on a movie on computer. Sound and picture good on computer. Picture on tv good but sound was from a tv show instead of the movie.PLEASE HELP

Somebody PLEASE. This is a week now. I appreciate everyone who is trying to help. I'm going bananas. Should the computer sound and monitor be on simultainiously with the tv picture and sound?? I'm getting more confused by the minute! I even turned off the surround sound of the computer and still get sound from a tv show from the home theater instead of whats on the computer.

    THANKS SO MUCH

From the looks of the TV manual you have everything right, so it's very odd you're running into this problem.

Have you tried swapping through the sources? I find with one of the TVs we have on display at work that any time I'm having some troubles with it I will change the source from PC to something else, then back to PC.

If that doesn't work then I'd suggest you try reseting the sound settings back to factory default. The instructions are on page 45 of the TV manual. From the TV menu select "Sound", then "Sound Reset", then either "Reset All" or "Reset Sound Mode". I would suggest reseting all.

Last option would be to try using the headphone jack in the side of the TV, though this is a last resort kind of thing since you would have to unplug it every time you wanted to use the cable box.

Hope this helps :)

BIOS Update for Sony VAIO VGC-RA840G computer.

Why do you need to update the BIOS? If your system is working, leave it alone. If you update the BIOS you may have to re-install the Operating System. (Not always the case though.) Download the Relevant BIOS from the Sony website and follow the instructions on the site, if you must!

Can I Upgrade Video Cards on my computer sony VGC-RA840G ?

I can't believe this has never been answered. yes, you can. you have to make sure it is pci, and only uses one slot. I put a EVGA Geforce GT610 in mine. Not superb, but runs what I need it to. An easy installation too. Good luck!

Of The 4 Connections On The Motherboard Is A Specific Pin Connection Critical Regarding Which One The Internal Main Hardrive Connects To?

According to specifications listed on Sony Vaio Support, the Vaio VGC-RA840G desktop computer uses a SATA harddrive.

[Left-click on Marketing Specifications]

If you have four SATA headers on your motherboard, you can plug your SATA harddrive into any one of them.

The beauty of SATA is that once you plug into any SATA header, BIOS will find the harddrive. Doesn't matter which SATA connector. (Connector on a motherboard is referred to as a Header)

Hook up a Sony VGC RA 840G desktop to a Samsung 46 inch TV

Some TV's don't have a VGA input. S-Video cable is more common. Look on the back of your computer an see if you have an S-Video jack. If you have a TV compatible output on your computer, such as an S-video jack, just take an S-video cable and connect it to your computer and your TV. If you do not, then attach your VGA end of your adapter to your computer and use the RCA, S-video or Component Video cable to attach to your TV. After you've made all the connections, make sure you are on the correct TV video input. Press the input button on your TV or remote until you see your computer's signal.
