Re: PS2

you REALLY dove into an issue here.
Several things that happen {depending on the version of PS2 you have}
The door may not be closing enough to signal the sensor, one way to solve this is add more weight to the door, I have added a few cd cases to the top and this solved it. However if this doesnt work then its an issue inside with 2 secret Sony buttons that need reset or the cap placed back on.
This will get into an issue of you opening it up.
here is a link to the instructions.

Hope this helps :0)

try the latter first before diving into opening that thing.

I have a ps2 slim SCPH-79001, so I am not sure if it will work with the fat ps2s but:

Turn the ps2 horizontly with the ps2 front facing you. Then put it in, you should hear a few ticks (with the slim) and just tap it against you knee a few times until you jear it spinning.

Again, I'm not sure if this will work with the fat ps2, but I hope I helped.

Ps2 powers up, but disc is not spinning and

Following could be the reasons for not spinning any PS2 disc:
  • A dirty laser. Try cleaning the laser and see if it helps. If you can see crust or dust covering the laser eye, it may not be strong enough to read anything at all. If the laser looks clean, this is probably not the issue.

  • An unplugged laser cable. These things normally do not come out by themselves, but if you opened the ps2 that was spinning OK to clean the laser and/or removed the laser to clean it, plugged it in, now it's spinning 1/2 of a turn, the laser cable may not be in securely. If it is in securely, make sure it is plugged into the motherboard end properly.
  • A dead laser. On models 30001, 35001, and some 30001R, this is the most likely issue. These models are old and the original lasers were a bit unreliable.

No Spin At All If your spindle hub is NOT SPINNING AT ALL, NOT EVEN 1/2 OF A TURN, it may be bad or unplugged. A tell tale sign of it being unplugged is if you hit eject, the laser moves down the rail, and starts grinding because the PS2 keeps trying to move it down the rail even though it hit the end. There's a small switch on the spindle hub that tells the unit to stop pushing the laser because it's reached the end. Spindle hubs usually do not go bad by themselves, usually either the PS2 too a bad fall and it became bent [try spinning it by hand], or someone the cable out and put it in too many times [or incorrectly] and the silver contacts on the cable were detached.

My ps2 silm not working.

My PS2 slim wont spin a disc unless I put pressure on the top of it. As a temporary fix I place a 10 pound ******** on top of it while the PS2 is in the horizontal position.

When i put guitar hero world tour in ps2 it just says reading dis

Most likely from you playing burnt discs on your PS2 which tricks the laser to work on those discs, it's like a habit devoloping, you need another PS2.

PS2 stopped spinning.

Laser issue is a commom problem on the ps2.The laser actually is controlling the spinning as well on ps2 machine and on the new ps3 too.
When the disk start, the spinner receive a kick back from the laser and after then that start the normal operation.
If the laser don`t send any impulse to the spinner the machine recognize a danger situation ang go on protection and stop the spinning process.
Replacing your laser will certanly solve your problem.

This could be a couple of things.  Have you opened it to see if it is not spinning or is it spinning them and just stops.  If it is spinning and just stops, then this is a Laser problem.  There are a few ways to fix this.  Let me know and I will help you out.
