The little nipple on the outside of the tank is for a tank vent...there should be a small tube on it with a small vent screw in it.

Is there a little nipple that looks like a mini in line gas filter that goes inside of gas tank where gas line goes into tank on one side and into carb on other and what is the part #

There is possibly three hoses in the tank dependant on wheather the machine has a primmer bulb, there is a main fuel hose with the filter on the end, a return hose from the primer bulb, and possibly a breather tube, the return hose may just have a plastic nipple on the end to stop the hose pulling out, the breather if in the tank will have a devise to stop the fuel leaking out, but allow air in to stop a vacume being created in the tank.

Diagram fuel lines tank primer carbutor poulan pro weedeater

I have no diagram but here are the instructions on how it goes.
The small diameter line out of fuel tank (has filter in-tank on end) connects directly to the side of the carburetor that has the fuel pump....that is the cover without the hole in it. Other larger diameter fuel line out of tank connects to the longer nipple on the external purge/primer bulb. The bulb "pulls" fresh fuel from the fuel tank to the carb and then out of the carb to itself, where it then "pushes" any air/old fuel back into the fuel tank. The remaining larger diameter fuel line in this setup goes from the metering chamber (has cover with writing on it and a vent-hole) side of the carburetor to the smaller nipple on the purge/primer bulb. Again, on the primer bulb, the longer nipple has a line going directly from it to the tank. This is the return line. The shorter nipple on the bub has a line from it going to the metering chamber side of the carb. If the purge/primer bulb is on top of the carb...small line from carb body to small hole in tank with filter. Larger diameter line goes from the bulb on the fuel pump side of the carb to the larger hole in the fuel tank where sometimes the line is held in place with a nylon nipple connector that keeps the line from pulling out of the tank. Otherwise, the line should enter the tank for about 1/2" or so.

Didn't take the gas lines off , and I don't have a

normally the line from the tank with the filter goes to the pump nipple of the carb, then the other nipple on carb by needle/seat side goes to suction side of primer, and the other one at primer goes to gas tank. what this does it pulls fuel through the carb when you prime it, and excess goes back into tank(return line) at primer, so when you prime it you should see fuel coming out through the line that goes to tank with out filter. good luck

Both lines do go to the bottom of the tank. One is the supply line (has in-tank fuel filter on it) and the other is the fuel return line (only needs to be in the tank for 1/2" or 1". It does matter which nipple on the external primer bulb the lines connect to. One sucks in and one pushes out. If you push on it with your finger covering one of the nipples, it is easy to tell if it is sucking or pushing. It will make a little pop, when you remove your finger if it is sucking. Here is the lowdown.

No gas getting from the gas tank to the carb. replaced hoses and filter already. can not even draw gas with primer button.

You either need a new primer bulb (leaking air) or you have the fuel lines routed wrong. Here is the correct fuel line routing just in case:
Small diameter line out of fuel tank (has filter in-tank on end) connects to the side of the carburetor that has the fuel pump....that is the cover without the hole in it. Other larger diameter fuel line out of tank connects to the longer nipple on the external purge/primer bulb. Ryobi 700r gas trimmer. Leaking fuel from the fuel return line...what is the best way to fix this?...seems to be leaking where the tube goes up into the fuel tank. thanks.

There is no nipple. The fuel line is just pushed through and holds itself tight against the hole in the tank.

This is the return line from the primer bulb, right?

Just replace the line and you should be fine. I think that some of these Ryobi lines are 3/16 OD and 3/32 ID, but I just picked up a Ryobi fuel line kit at Home Depot today, and the black line seems to fit nicely here. (My trimmer still won't start, but at least it doesn't leak gas any more.) Be careful to note which line comes from where on the orimer bulb.
