We replaced the pump, and it has been working fine for about a month. Now the machine is tripping all the house electrics as soon as it is switched on.
A washer should not be plugged into a gfci device. It should use a dedicated circuit just for the washer off a standard duty circuit breaker or time delay fusetron fuse. In most washers that are top loading, a diaphragm switch operates the start circuitry for the washer [ timer ] as water goes into the tub, a positive pressure acts on the diaphragm and closes a set of contacts connected to the timer that operates the several contacts for the motor and transmission. the only place there might be power is on the spade connectors on the motor, the timer, the water switch, the door lid switch. Now, if the motor is sooo old that the insulation breaks down, it will develop a fault to ground and charge the shell of the appliance to 120 volts. This is a hazard to you the user. If you have the technical knowledge get a meter and check the motor leads to equipment ground. If the meter deflects full scale on the RX1 setting you have a problem with a winding to ground short. Replace the motor. Another problem is you might have a frozen bearing which causes the motor current to shoot up, tripping a breaker or blowing a fuse. remove any belts and try spinning the motor pulley by hand to see if it is bound up. try rotating the pulley on the transmission to see IF it is bound up, do the same with the pump. if any of these things are difficult to rotate it may be the prime source of your problem. change the pump, replace the transmission bearing or work inside the transmission may be necessary. motor bearings are press fitted on the motor shaft.

- If there is a start capacitor on the motor, a shorted capacitor will blow the fuse or breaker - replace this

HE2 plus shuts down with F-20 error code about 9 minutes into every cycle. We have had the pressure switch replaced. The problem still exists.
