I had a similiar problem and was using Windows Vista which was not compatible with the XP Installation package. The onboard drivers would not work either. Check to see if your printer is compatible with your version of windows.
How are you connecting this printer to your computer ? usb or network ? If its network i would recommend you to make sure that the IP Address on the printer matches with the one set on the printer driver on the pc Tryn reinstalling the software a detecting the printer automaticly
1.check the cable to the PC see if it is seated properly 2. uninstall and reinstall the drivers for the printer using the installation disk that came with the printer. 3. there is usually a troubleshooting chart in the user manual that will tell you the issue you are having with the printer if not there go to the manufacturers web site to the "tech support" section and there is a troubleshooting guide there. If not you may have a malfunction printer. Printers depending on if they are laser will have a unit life. If the unit is used extensively may not have toner( laser) or if ink jet may have a dry printer head and will need cleaning or replacement.
Looks like this is second printer installed on ur lappy... if that is so open Printers and Faxes and make ur laser jet 5 as default printer. Can give more accurate solution if u'll mention what error msg u got...
I use the same printer kind of printer for my PC which is older than 8 years... I believe its ink jet... yeah since I have to buy a refill cartage ever who knows when. My printer is really old I would give its name, but I'm not near home to look at it. Either way I find the EPSON printers are good for older computers especially the older models.
Laser printers employ a xerographic
printing process but differ from analog photocopiers in that the image
is produced by the direct scanning of a laser beam across the printer's photo receptor.
Ink jet use ink to print images... obviously. No real in depth on it since its plain and simple.
