Won't startup(dell desktop 4600)

I tried to press the F11 button, because I wanted to clean the driver (it was running to slow). Now, the computer won't boot. It hangs on a screen that reads "Loading PBR for descriptor 2...done." Any suggestions? Or should I throw this DELL out the window? I live in apartment building

thanks. Kevin

Before you throw it out check out this website that explains what the F11 on Dell is suppose to do (restore your hard drive) and how to fix it if it doesn't work. If that still doesn't work I'll give ya $50 for it...good luck if you have any questions let me know..

Attempt to boot the machine in Safe-Mode.
While powering up continuously hit F8.
You will get a Boot Option Menu
Select Safe-Mode boot

If this works for you, you should use MSCONFIG to remove some start up items.

Start > Run > MSCONFIG and then go to the Startup tab and un-check entrys of programs you dont need starting up in the begining.

As far as what was deleted, this could be these simple steps.

Good luck

I need the restore cd for dell dimension 4600

if your restore partition is still intact, try holding down Crtl+F11 on startup.

This will access the hidden restore partiton.

Alas, if you just replaced the hard drive or reformatted it. You will need the restore disk or the version of windows that is on the COA sticker with the valid windows key.

Dimension 4600 won't reset to factory settings

These model dells came with a recovery cd rather than a partition. You will need to call dell and have them send you a recovery cd and then use that disc to restore your computer to factory defaults.

Cannot reformat Dimensions 4600 I tried F11 but it won't let me restart

If you are going to reinstall the operating system on the dimension 4600, while it is on insert the Operating System CD inside the drive then press and hold the power button to turn off system. When you turn it back on press the F12 Key once on the Dell Logo and that will take you to the Boot Menu. Choose the one that says IDE or Onboard CD / DVD Drive then press enter. If it asks you to press any key to boot to the CD then press enter again. Then just follow the normal prompts for reinstalling the operating system.

Dimension 4600 won't reset to factory settings

First, if you have any data on the machine you want, I'd back it up to a USB flash/thumb drive.
Then, assuming you purchased the machine new, you should have the maroon/silver "Recovery Disk". Pop that in the CD, and restart the machine. Press F12 to select BOOT OPTIONS. Select CD Hit Enter. This should start the Dell Recovery process. If you do not have the Rec. CD, contact Dell. They should be able to provide you the org. software - for a small fee of course.

Factory Restore

Hi,

Have you tried using another keyboard? if that doesnt work, try hitting the pause/break button on your keyboard and you should notice that your screen will be stuck on the dell logo with the bar going across, once you notice that hold down ctrl and hit f11. that should work..

Let me know what happens, alright?
