Spilled water onto laptop keyboard

I spilled water over my keyboard last night. first the keyboard stopped functioning in that area, and then the entire keyboard didnt work. after that i tried to restart the computer but got to the ctrl-alt-del screen which i couldnt get through since the keyboard didnt work. when i restarted the computer again, the screen said something abt stickykeys. after a few minutes, the screen just stays black on restarting. i tried to dismantle the computer but couldnt open the entire thing up. i'm wondering if it's still worth paying for the repair or if this means it's totally dead and i shd just get a new computer. thanks!

Re: spilled water onto laptop keyboard

I swear this works.... put your computer in a 2 gallon ziplock bag (the biggest they make) and put dry rice in the bag. The rice pulls all of the moisture out of your computer. I dried mine out for five days and it still didn't work. Then I tried the rice and it booted up and worked great after a day and a half. It was amazing!

Dell inspiron 1525 functions keys are not working

The two most common input devices for the Dell Inspiron 1525 are the keyboard and mouse.

Although the mouse is an almost indispensable tool in navigating through programs and websites with your laptop, the keyboard offers quick shortcuts to open and manipulate files and information.

An unresponsive keyboard can indicate a deeper problem and require troubleshooting to narrow down the cause and find the proper solution.

Laptops are collections of complicated computer components and sometimes a file or two can become damaged and affect the way the machine behaves.

The first action to perform when things aren't working right is to reboot. When your laptop restarts, it essentially resets all the files and programs to the "starting" position and corrects any small errors that may have occurred during the last session.

Eliminate Conflicting Hardware

With an almost unlimited number of accessories, programs and software available for your 1525, it's possible something else installed on or connected to your computer is interfering with its ability to properly communicate with the keyboard.

Shut down the laptop and disconnect everything attached to it.

Power up and test the keyboard.

If it works, start reconnecting each accessory, one by one, until the keyboard stops working. You've found your culprit.

Try External Keyboard

To determine whether the problem exists in the keyboard itself a hardware problem or with the software that controls keyboard function, attach an external keyboard and see if it works.

If it does, the problem with your 1525's keyboard may lie in the keyboard itself, such as a loose cable.

If the external keyboard doesn't work, the problem may lie with the operating system's software that controls keyboard function, such as the drivers.

Update Software

Sometimes a laptop will stop functioning properly due to out-of-date drivers or other software. Always check Microsoft's website for any updates available for your operating system and check Dell's website for updates to the drivers and BIOS installed on your system.

In many cases, installing the latest updates will help correct issues and keep your system working smoothly and efficiently.

Check for Damage

Physical damage, such as a liquid spill and short circuits, can prevent the keyboard from operating properly.

Any amount of liquid spilled on your keyboard can cause a short circuit to the components and a sticky beverage such as juice or soda can cause the keys to stick and become unresponsive.

Clean the spilled liquid from under the keyboard fix sticky keys.

Laptop repair shops can do this for you if the task is out of your comfort zone.

Hope this helps

Sony vaio laptop numeric keypad 2 and 4 not functioning at all.Help

Could be that something was spilled on the keyboard or water may have dripped on that area. You have the other 2 and 4 so unless you want to replace the whole keyboard I wouldn't worry about it too much.

How to Fix Spilt Liquid on bda25ce.jpg?
You accidentally knocked fruit drink or a late night glass of milk on your laptop or your child spilled a good portion of milk directly into your keyboard. You hear a popping noise, the screen goes black. Water by itself is not as bad as milk or juice, both of which are corrosive/acidic, or coffee, tea, soda, etc.
First and most important -Calm Down and unplug the computer from its power source.
Disconnect it from the power cord and remove the battery. If needs, please remove the keyboard. The old adage - Water and Electricity don't mix - is quite true. For your laptop spilled water, let your laptop dry. Do not attempt to turn on the computer for at least 72 hours. Let it sit in a cool, dry place. If you disassembled the laptop, reassemble it after 72 hours have passed.

Water spilled onto laptop and now its not booting up

Water spills are almost always fatal for laptops. Try this. Pull the battery out. Wrap the laptop in paper towels, put the laptop in a bag of White rice for 24 hours. Then plug the laptop in without the battery and see if the light is on the ac adapter. Turn the laptop on and check the light again. If it doesn't work you will need to replace the keyboard and motherboard. This is usually not worth doing on older laptops.

Acer spacebar types bv why? how do i stop it?

If it not under warranty I would suggest to open the laptop and reseat the Keyboard cable. Also it might just be that the keyboard is simply faulty - as the space bar is close to bv so maybe it was damaged some time ago. The last assumption I would have that liquid has been spilled onto the keyboard - It stuck bv and space together and everytime you type space, the key that are hooked with the dried liquid come down with it.

Keyboard Problems

Did it have a liquid spill? If so, remove the keyboard and wash (yes, wash) it. Run it under a warm stream of water (kitchen tap) for a full two minutes. Use a compressor (or a can of air to get out as much water as you can), and put it keys-forward facing a fairly strong fan for 24 hours. Try it again. If no good, replace the keyboard. If no spill, you need a new keyboard.......sorry.

Laptop Cleaning/Repair

That is something that you should not attempt .. Because most likely you will need to replace the keyboard...
If they are just not working because they are Sticking or Stuck, you can repair this by can remove the keyboard and clean it, also checking the ribbon cable that goes from the keyboard to the motherboard... look for any burn spots near the keyboard plug connection, chances are that just simply replacing the keyboard would fix it ..
You also will need the entire laptop taken apart to see if the "drink" spilled onto other parts, or worse... the motherboard...
