your pause . . . button . . . has come loose from the tiny switch that actually controls pause ; the remote ( it has a battery ) can activate pause , directly from your control chip and is cheaper than the repair ;

I have Vista. I used a free download "DVD Decrypter" and it converted the files. I then just used Window's Media to view them.

No images but records sound

To start ensure that you removed the cover from the lens.
Also remove battery and put it back in place to reset the camcorder.

If you get only sound on playback, connect the camera to a computer or TV, or play the tape on a different camera. If you get picture in there, then the camcorder is recording, but the video playback does not work because of a faulty LCD display.
If when you play back the movie on a different camera, or using the compute you still get no picture then the camcorder is faulty.
Faults that can cause black screen can be:
Lens problem. Faulty CCD sensor. Faulty controller board.
All this faults are not easy to diagnose and fix, if there is a fault , then it is better to take the camera to a repair shop.

My Quasar VM-L143-C Camcorder screen turns black

if the camera records the video it will be there in the memory of it and you can check it by connecting it with a computer.if the video is in the memory there will be no problem with the recording device and the problem will be only to the LCD screen .if it is so, replace it with a new one which cost you about 35$-40$.if the settings are not correct the above problem will check the settings first and then go for the replacement of LCD .check whether the color of the LCD screen is in the correct level(check the brightness,contrast....)thank you.

No image at all...

The JVC C-Format camera can have one of two seperate problems that cause this symptom. The connector to the CCD comes loose and causes loss of video. Also, the CCD has been a source of problems for some time now, JVC will repair this for you free of charge if it's the CCD causing the problem. Good luck to you. Joe Weibel
