Question about HP Pavilion dv2718us Notebook

2 Answers

Having problem with keyboard and mousepad not working on a HP Pavilion dv2718us laptop. Have reinstalled drivers and tried various troubleshooting methods. Will work with external kbd/mouse, but having another issue too. When I try to reimage system, I get a "white noise" or static screen and frozen PC. Tried to boot into safe mode and try it from there...same thing...any ideas? Would try to reset bios, but do not know where the jumpers on the motherboard are and cannot find any specs or pics of this board. Found the CMOS battery, but that's it.

Pulling CMOS battery and resetting bios fixed the keyboard and mouse issue, but now when I try to reimage system, I get into problems with PC shutting down...the screen goes trying to watch the cable channels you're not paying't see images and must reboot system.horizontal lines that run diagonally across screen and the video card, the RAM or motherboard sound bad, or do I just need to order the recovery discs form HP?

You need to update BIOS. They fixed that problem in the latest version.

The keyboard and mousepad is not working

Without looking at it, I would have to say that the ribbon cable that connects the keyboard/mouse to the motherboard has been disconnected, you will need to research that. May be simple. Has there been any water spilled on it?

Remove the large panel (7 screws) on the base of the machine.
The memory is situated under a black flexible plastic cover about 75 x 30 mm - amost directly below the earphone and mousepad area.

Memory is held in position by clips at each side - press them outwards and memory card will pop-up.

A second card can be fitted below and slightly higher than the first.

I have just fitted IGb and will probably put in another (max 2GB), - cost about £15.

Hope this is of use.

Mouse pad wont work after water spill

not difficult..with right tools and patience..the touchpad is part of the upper assembly, and requires that the bottom be removed. When I do this, it takes around an hour.

got backup?
