  • pomapug2 Apr 15, 2009

And also the Acer is on windows Xp and the Dell Inspiron is on Windows Vista. Neither are connecting or finding the network

I am using a U.S. Robotics 802.11g 54MbpsRouter. Been using it for the last 2 or 3 years. Just started having connection issues with it. My non-wireless computer and internet connection is fine. Just having problems with the Dell Inspiron and Acer laptop. I have completely shut down my computer and unplugged all cables to Ethernet to Router. Still no luck. And about the Ethernet cable..... can you go into deeper detail about what you mean about doing all that for correcting the configuration?

Please provide more details about your problem:
What system changes have taken place lately?
    No Hardware?
    Any errors?
If so, provide details about errors?

What you will need to do is pull up the configuration utility of your router.

Open a command prompt on your computer - click Start -> Run -> cmd (you need to type cmd and click OK)

    in the command prompt
    type
    ipconfig

look at the default gateway address
most likely it will be something like 192.168.1.1

open up your web browser and visithttp://192.168.1.1 (replace with the default gateway address from previous step)

you will need to login using the username and password per the instructions in the manual for the wireless access point. (model #?)

once your logged in you would need to view all of the settings related to WLAN, wireless networking, or however they've worded it in their utility.

if you can login and copy/paste the screens you find, I can tell you what to change.

what make and model wireless access point?

you will need to connect to that access point with an ethernet cable to examine and correct the configuration.

Hi my mxq pro 4k box is connecting but not picking up internet connection. Why Also when connected message displayed is cannot play video

The "connected" message applies to the TV, not the internet connection. To connect to the internet, either use an ethernet cable, or connect wirelessly using instructions provided.

Tip

Set up and Use Internet Connection Sharing

Hi,

To enable Internet Connection Sharing on a network connection

You must be logged on to your computer with an owner account in order to complete this procedure.
Open Network Connections. (Click Start, click Control Panel, and then double–click Network Connections.)

Click the dial–up, local area network, PPPoE, or VPN connection you want to share, and then, under Network Tasks, click Change settings of this connection.

On the Advanced tab, select the Allow other network users to connect through this computer's Internet connection check box.
If you want this connection to dial automatically when another computer on your home or small office network attempts to access external resources, select the Establish a dial–up connection whenever a computer on my network attempts to access the Internet check box.

If you want other network users to enable or disable the shared Internet connection, select the Allow other network users to control or disable the shared Internet connection check box.

Under Internet Connection Sharing, in Home networking connection, select any adapter that connects the computer sharing its Internet connection to the other computers on your network. The Home networking connection is only present when two or more network adapters are installed on the computer.

To configure Internet options on your client computers for Internet Connection Sharing

Open Internet Explorer. Click Start, point to All Programs, and then click Internet Explorer.)

On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.

On the Connections tab, click Never dial a connection, and then click LAN Settings.

In Automatic configuration, clear the Automatically detect settings and Use automatic configuration script check boxes.

In Proxy Server, clear the Use a proxy server check box.

Good luck!

Connected wireless to router, excellent signal, but unable to connect to internet.

connected to wireless router with excellent signal may not means you are connected to internet. make sure your modem provided by internet service provider has signal! connect your computer to modem directly bypassing router. If you are online that means your internet is functional. Then connect modem to your Linksys router and use your wireless to log on to internet.
Your router wireless signal active and excellent means you are connected to router not necessarily the internet. The modem supplied by your internet service provider with active internet should be connected to you router on WAN port!
good luck!!

I got a Dell desktop computer from a friend who bought it new. It only has a dial up connection so I got it hooked up. Problem that I have is it won't dial out to connect to the internet. Ralphie

Hi dlwbaw

You have to make a new connection.
Go to "Control Panel", find "Network Connections", double click on that, here you choose file (in the menu) and choose "New Connection". Follow the Wizard (choose, new connection to the internet, connection without code/username/password, and normaly people have DSL connections).
Try to connect the pc to the internet now, this should work, if not:
you have to have the setup way from your internet provider, many times they have a manual on the internet. If it is a connection with user name/ code, you have to Edit your friends internet connection (icon on network connections) or make a new connection with this codes.
The codes you get from your internet provider

Some internet providers allow only one computer connected to the internet.

Hope that helps
Have a nice Sunday :O)

I AM UNABLE TO ACCESS INTERNET THRU MY HYBRID APPLE MAC DESK TOP-

Go into network set up a shared Internet connection using ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) You can use Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) to share an Internet connection among two or more computers on a network. First, you need one computer, called the host computer, that is connected to the Internet and that has a separate connection to the other computers on your network. You enable ICS on the Internet connection. The other computers on your network then connect to the host computer, and from there to the Internet through the host computer's shared Internet connection.
If your computer is connected to a network, network policy settings might prevent you from completing these steps.
On the host computer (the computer whose Internet connection you plan to share):
  1. ?id=microsoft.windows.resources.shellexecutetopiciconClick to open Network Connections.
  2. Right-click the connection that you want to share, and then click Properties.getcontent.aspx?assetid=18abb370-ac1e-4b6b-b663-e028a75bf05b&documentset=en-us&renderkey=signed1 If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
  3. Click the Sharing tab, and then select the Allow other network users to connect through this computer’s Internet connection check box.
