Question about Canon PIXMA MP830 All-In-One InkJet Printer
Check and make sure that if you have something plugged into the fax/phone ports that it is installed correctly. I had this noise when I accidentally put the usb cable into one of the ports.

There are 2 linesockets at the rear of printer, one for Fax and the other for Phone. When connecting line for fax, make sure you engage the FAX socket rather than the phone socket and the clicking will stop.

The clicking stops when you unplug the fax/phone cable. However, that's not the real issue. The MP830 has a separate paper tray for the fax ! The fax paper tray is not mentioned in the quick set-up guide ! Fill that tray with paper, and the clicking with stop ! Daniel PS. The fax paper tray is at the front of the machine, down the bottom.
