Question about Denon AVR-5800 Receiver

1 Answer

AVR-5800 issues Display is out. Won't respond to remote. Won't pass audio. Not sure if audio is stopping before of after preamp section. Haven't got that far yet. I'm willing to bet there's a common thread between these three problems. Perhaps a processor or section of power supply. A service manual would get me a long way here but I'm having a hard time finding one.

Re: AVR-5800 issues

Does the unit click when you press the power button on/off? If so, then the amplifier output transistors are shorted out.

I'm trying to connect a Bose 802-E active equalizer (and 802 speakers) to my Denon AVR-1404 hoe theater receiver. I have it connected via analogue RCA cables to the CDR/TAPE inputs and outputs. My problem...

I'm not totally sure this will work but give it a shot.
Your remote has two slider switches on it and a "source" button. I would slide the Audio/Video Switch to Audio. And I would Slide the other switch to the "tape" positions. Then I would push the "Source" button. That may activate the traditional "tape monitor" switch functions used in traditional preamp designs. Give it a try.
If there is a jumper going from the pre-amp sections to the power amp sections, you could put the 802's EQ in that loop. I have the feeling that this feature is not part of Denon's designs.
I hope this helps,
Best Regards,

I have a Denon 1708 receiver. When I push the "on" button, either on the unit itself or using the remote, the light flashes green for a few seconds, then flashes red. When it turns red, all of the info...

Your result indicates the unit is not passing its power up self test. The first thing to try would be to remove all connections to the unit and try to power up. If it still mis-behaves, the unit has an internal problem best left to pros unless you're pretty good digging through circuitry. If it comes up stable, then reconnect things one at a time until the issue occurs again. Detach the offending connection and look for issues in the cables or the connected unit.

I cannot get my surround sound to work, is there a fuse ar reset?

Choose the surround on the remote control to switch on . If the display comes on without the speakers not responding, check the speakers, if not the surround section output IC is faulty. There is fusible resistors in the power supply to the IC, So if there is no voltage on the surround IC, then check and trace back.
If the fuse blows then the IC is faulty.

AVR 254 is not responding. None of its front panel buttons are working (except volume). Same thing with the remote. I noticed that in the front panel area, the speaker icons in the Speaker/Channel Input...

The reason your receiver is causing you issues is cause of a 2 time Delay fuse's on the transformer board all you have to do is to by pass them.
Check the connector on the top front of the HDMI board. at the bottom of the connector it tells you the voltage of each wire the middle one is GND. should read 1.8v and 5.6v if the 5.6v line is dead. you key's in the front panel and sometimes video and audio as well.. will also stop working. all you have to do is to by pass them.

I will be posting a video later today on how to fix this issue. Regards,

Avr5800 with no on screen display

With some receivers, the on-screen display is limited to a specific video output from the receiver to your TV.

I'm not 100% positive if that's the issue with yours, but it's likely.

If you're connected via Component or HDMI out, you may want to try S-video or composite video.

If that doesn't work, consult Denon to find out which output does your OSD.

Denon AVR-2803 Zone 2 sound source

You have to switch your remote into Zone 2 Mode. It will be an option on your remote. Once you put it in that mode, you can change the source just as you would Zone one.

Set up

You don't need to fake it with a VCR - on the back left side near the bottom there is a Monitor section with an RCA connection and an S-Video connection. Connect one of these to an input connection on your tv and switch your tv to show that input. Select the AMP setting of your remote and press Setup.
