HOW CAN I BYPASS HAVING TO REPLACE TONER OTHER THAN BLACK AND MAKE MY PRINTER STILL WORK?

Only want to use the black toner in my brother 9440 without having to replace any other empty toner. Any suggestions?

Software is written to make sure that you cannot do that. I have found no simple answer to bypass any models of any brands.

Actually just cover the optical window on the side of the toner in question with a piece of electrical tape. It fools the optical sensor into thinking the toner is full.

Brother MFC 9440CN Toner Life End Message... The Final Solution

Sadly, I was crushed to discover that performing this operation did not solve the problem for my accursed unit.
[Do it anyway as it will save you from these annoyingly premature warnings in future!]

Reading further, I became convinced that a reset process similar to that used to solve this problem for the Brother 2040 and 7420 models was also required here.

With nothing more to go on than responses to my emails from the good people (knuckleheads) at Brother telling me only how to install a new cartridge, I began poking around on my own 'till, after much swearing and gnashing of teeth, I figured it out:

1. With power on, open the toner access main door (You will get a "door open" message in the LCD.)
2. Hit the "Clear/Back" button and... ta-dah!!! you go right to the “Toner Reset Menu” (cue Vienna Boy's choir sounds here).
3. Using the up á Down â "Search" arrow buttons you can then scroll through reset options for each of the printer's [4] toner cartridges!
Code: B. = black; C. = cyan; M. = magenta and Y. = yellow
4. For each for these cartridges is the option to reset for low yield = S (small?) or High Yield - H
5. Using the number keypad, select option #1 (to reset each to the size you have installed.
6. Hit the "Clear/Back" button to get out of the menu, close door ad the problem is FINALLY solved.

Additional tip: you might want to try turning on the Toner Save Mode to stretch out your cartridge replacements.
Open Printers > go to the MFC 9440 icon >>> Printing Preferences...> Advanced Settings > Printer Functions > Toner Save Mode >> turn on.
Looks fine to me, though not suggested for grayscale or photo printing,.

Cheers!

Product is Brother HL-4150CDN laser printer. The LCD display is saying Replace Toner (Back) I have 2 black toner carts available. One that I slightly used previously before swapping it out with a new one...

Had this same problem on the same printer. Here is the solution.
Open the front cover of the printer and press "Cancel" & "Secure". This will access a secret menu that will let you reset the toner counter. There are 12 settings in all (3 per color).
Two thumbs up going out to TonerHacker007 on the fixyourownprinter.com forums for this one.

Can i refill tonner on MFC- 9440 CN laser printer

You can, but it a dirty job. I would not recommend it as the toner powder is very fine and you don't want to breath in this toner powder.
If you don't want to purchase a new toner cartridge, then I recommend you buy a re-manufactured toner cartridge for your model printer. They cheaper than the new Brother toner cartridges and usually contain more toner and the drum cartridge components have been refurbished.

How do I set Brother 9440 MFC to print using black cartridge only?

Hello,

You can set the MFC-9440CN to print with the black toner cartridge only through the printer drivers.

If you are using Mac, this needs to be changed before you print or set a preset.

If you are using windows, follow the below steps.

1. Go to Start menu \ Control Panel \ Printers (devices and printers for windows 7)
2. Right click on the MFC-9440CN and select "printing preferences"
3. Under the "basic" tab, you will see "color mode"; simply select "mono"

Thank you,

MFC-9440 CN Laser Printer is producing vertical color line streak

Colored vertical streaks - looks like a transfer belt problem, and it's not user fixable. You may need a new belt unit - you can find it for around US$ 80-120, but you may want to have a technician inspect the unit first, since it could arguably be the drum instead, and you don't want to fork around US$ 100 and replace the wrong part.
You can try showing a printer sample at a print shop; by looking at the streaks it is possible to diagnose drum, fuser or belt problems.
Here you find a much more detailed page, for another printer model, but the issues are mainly the same for most color printers:

Black dots on printed page from Brother 9440 color laser printer

The problem lies with the black toner cartridge. This is a common problem in these machines due to poor design by Brother. Best solution is to replace the offending color toner cartridge.

Error reading on Toner not correct

Probably just like other Brother printers. It is an optical device, sending light through a window in the toner cassette and sensing the amount of light that gets through. High light throughput in this circuit = toner low.
