-   My dryer won't start. I took the thermal protector off and tested it and it did not have continuity. I replaced it and still have the same problem. The start button just clicks when i push it. The door button works. The timer is ticking???

If there is power at the start in those two places, check the voltage at the motor, some of these units have a thermal protector on them as well, they look like little round discs with two leads coming out of them. If you dont have continuity then its bad. Also its possible the motor windings are bad i would check the resistance on them as well.

Repair for Maytag Neptune Gas Dryer, Model MDG5500AWW, "no start" and "Code 8.8" problem.

If your dryer will not start when the start button is pushed, you may have a bad control board. Our dryer had an intermittent problem like this for several months. When pushing the start button a code 8.8 would show on the display and the dryer would not start.

Earlier today it finally quit all together and would not start. Examination of the control board revealed a leaking capacitor and overheated resistors. A replacement board (~ $165.00) fixed the problem.

The control board is located behind the display in the upper unit. Access is from the rear and the change out is quite easy.

Hope this helps!
