Your TV most likely has one or more possible problems.

Problem #1: Convergence Chip Failure ( common problem )

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together a kits for most models. If you don't see a kit for your set send them a quick note and they will put one together for you. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, etc.

Problem #2 CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around BAD PICTURE, DISTORED, MOSTLY ON THE EDGES, BUT TH - 578ba6c.jpg

Just set up the bravia and the picture is not crisp... directions for trouble shooting?

do u have a hd box, because if you dont then your tv is not going to project the look that you want. and another thing is that is that if you have basic cable then you will not have the desire look you want. another you can do is check with your cable company and ask them what are your high def channels and then once you turn to them channels your tv should look clear as water lol. but not all channels are high def. and most lcd flat screen tv come preset so when you turn to a high def channel it will say at the top 108pi or 1080p or 4080i or p but its depending on ur service provider

Tv turns on and has sound but no picture. Only black screen, the menu from the cable or dvd cannot be seen.

Make sure your using a cable box that is compatible with a high def tv, if your tuning a high def channel and your converter does not support high def, it will only play the sound, no vidio at all.

My Bush tv NR Itv 2101 on channels 1 & 4 picture is fine but channels 2,3, & 5 has a black band 1 inch deep top and botton. All channels say 4.3 so can't be that, any idea's. regards JM

it is because the channel is being brodcast in hd and not just digital. it is an unfortutane side effect of the dtv convertion, all brodcast are now digital but not all are high def, if you had a high def tv and were watching and standard definition channel it would have thick black line on the left and right because the image does not fill the dislay

Full screen view

in order to get the full HD experience you should be using HDMI cables. if you're using the white/red/yellow cables then your HD channels will not broadcast in full HD and you'll be stuck with the annoying black things around your screen

High Definition Channels leave bar on top and bottom

More then likely it has to do with the aspect ratio of what you're trying to watch. Most DVD's are in widescreen format (2.40 to 1) like you would see in a theater but an HD tv is a 16 by 9 format or 1.85 to 1. Look at the DVD case and see. Also some HD shows are in widescreen so you'll get the same thing. You're only option to fill the screen is get movies in 1.85 to 1 or use your zoom functions however these do tend to distort the picture.
