Question about Maytag PYE4558A Electric Dryer

1 Answer

Dryer does not work.

The dryer does not swith-on/start-up at all. Someone suggested I replace the timer switch, which I did. However, this did not solve the problem at all. What should I do next?

Re: Dryer does not work.

Roma, first you want to check the thermal fuse. Dryer won't run if it's bad, Check out #5 on the photo, you will have to lift the top to get at it. Should be 2 clips, one on each side of the top. Push in and pull up. Catriver

Kenmore Elite Gas Dryer: Dryer does not dry clothes completely, even when I set the times for 80-minutes. I usually need to set the timer an additional 60-minutes resulting in 2-hrs + 20-minutes of dryer...

    • 1 Check the dryer's fuse if the dryer's drum operates but does not heat. The fuse may not be working properly if there is a break inside. If it happens to be broken, replace it with a new fuse.
    • 2 The dryer's heating will not function properly if the timer does not work. Fix a bad timer by disconnecting the leads from the motor and setting the Volt-Ohm, or VOM, to RX100. Clip off the probes onto the leads. If the timer is set on infinity, then it needs to be replaced.
    • 3 If the drum is no longer spinning, first check to see if the motor pulley is working correctly. If it is not, then it will need to be replaced. Once everything is dissembled, take time out to clean out the compartment with a vacuum to remove dust and lint.
    • 4 If the dryer still is not functioning, then the dryer's belt may be broken. To fix the dryer's belt, you'll have to replace it with a new one. Line up the replacement belt with markings on the drums seen on the damaged one. Wind it around both the motor pulley and the idler pulley.
    • 5 The roller also could be damaged if the dryer still continues to not work. Fix the damaged roller by removing the tumbler to gain access, then remove the retaining clip on the roller by sliding it off. Reverse the process to install a new one
    • 6 If the dryer is not working at all (when you turn it on by the switch and it still does not work), consider replacing the terminal block. Use the VOM to check for voltage at the terminal block. Use extreme caution as the power needs to be on to run this test. Call an experienced electrician for help if need be.
    • 7 If the dryer is not working still, test to see if the dryer's switches are working properly. Set the VOM to RX1 and get rid of one of the leads to the switch, clipping the probes to the switch's terminals. When the reader is switched to infinity, press the start button. If the reader does not switch to zero, then the switch is bad and needs to be replaced by a professional.

HI, my dryer stopped working, check belt it not broken and in place. So what can it be. Can it be the starter button?

Hello there and thanks for choosing fixya

Investigate these areas if your dryer is not starting:

Proper Voltage from the House

Your dryer may not be receiving adequate voltage to start. Make sure your dryer is plugged in. Also, check the circuit breaker panel to make sure all the circuit breakers are in the correct positions. Or check to make sure no fuses in the fuse panel are blown. Try plugging something else into the same outlet. If it won't work either, then there is likely something wrong with the power outlet. Any of these could be the reason power is not getting to your dryer. Also, refrain from using an extension cord to plug your dryer in.

dryer_door-switch.jpg Door Switch

If your dryer's door switch is defective, it will not allow your dryer to start. Test your dryer's door switch. If it is defective, replace it.

dryer_start-switch.jpg Start Switch

A dryer cannot start if its start switch is defective. Test your dryer's start switch. If it is defective, you will have to replace it for your dryer to start again.

dryer_thermal-fuse.jpg Thermal Fuse

A thermal fuse is a heat-sensitive fuse attached to your dryer's exhaust duct (in most models) that is designed to blow if the dryer overheats. A blown fuse would cause your dryer to not heat, or to not work at all. Open up your dryer's cabinet and locate its thermal fuse. Test the component. If it has blown, replace it.

dryer_thermostat.jpg Thermostat

A defective dryer thermostat could be what is preventing your dryer from starting. Open up your dryer's cabinet. Test each of your dryer's thermostats. Replace any that have become defective.

dryer_timer.jpg Timer Motor

Your dryer's timer will not function properly if its motor is malfunctioning. Open up your dryer's cabinet and locate its motor. Test the component. If it is not functioning as it should, replace either the motor itself, or the entire timer assembly.

dryer_motor.jpg Motor

A burned out motor could be what is keeping your dryer from starting. Test your dryer's motor and if it is defective, replace it. You will have to open your dryer in order to gain access to its motor.

Trying to replace timer 8299771. Can't find my

On the new timer , you have 2 wires comming of the timer motor . The blue wire should go to one of these terminals on the timer itself . The place where there is ONLY a timer motor wire going to , is where it should go .

Dryer will not turn on although the timer is working

IF your hearig a click when you push the start button then the button and relay are good check the saftey switch on the door to see if it has come loose and follen down or moved back if the switch is not pressed the motor will not work also I have seen the switches go bad you need to unplug the dryer and cross the too wires togeather plug the dryer back in and press the start button if she starts order a new swith. The motor could also be bad you nees to remove the back cover and check to see when the button is pressed if you are getting the correct voltage you will need a volt meter to check this they cost around 10- 20 bucks if you have correct voltage from the wires and the conections to the motor are ok the motor is no good and needs to be replaced hope this helps...

Roper dryer won't shut off

The timer motor isn't moving the timer. You'll need to replace the timer. Turning the timer **** to off should stop the machine.
Exception: If the shutting the door automatically starts the motor, then the start switch/relay is probably shorted.
