Question about Kenmore 76283 Bottom Freezer Refrigerator

Open Question

Ice machine I have a Kenmore bottom freezer refrigerator.  The ice machine was not hooked up until several years after the purchase of the appliance.  It will not make cubes.  It will only dispense water which freezes in the bottom of the bucket.  It did make 2 cubes(!) the first day it was hooked up but that was the end.   I have tried every size cube, to increase the temp of the freezer, to set the "ultra-ice" option, waited 24 hours (and six months) since the ice machine was hooked up.  (Essentially, all of the trouble shooting tips in the book)

SOURCE: ICE CUBE MAKER SMELLY ICE CUBES

Hello margrek
Welcome,

YOU SAID, YOU HAVE KENMORE ELITE BOTTOM FREEZER WITH ICE MAKER THE ICE CUBES SMELL HORRIBLE ALWAYS, I EVEN TOSS THEM OUT EVERY FEW DAYS, STILL SAME PROBLEM

Ice has bad odor and taste.

1• Ice has picked up odor or
flavor from strong food stored
in refrigerator or freezer.
2• Water running to ice maker
has poor taste or odor.
3• Ice not used frequently enough.
4• Cover foods tightly. Discard stale ice. Ice maker will
produce fresh supply.
5• Add filter to water supply line. Consult a water purifying
company.
7• Discard stale ice.

Help please - my Kenmore Elite Bottom Freezer not cold - top refrigerator getting warm.

Have pressure taps installed, & check the refrigerant... these refrigerators have a critical charge (meaning not a lot of refrigerant to make them work) So whoever puts gauges on it, make sure they purge their hose while screwing the hose on to the new pressure tap so there is no loss of refrigerant & no air gets into the system. It sounds to me like it is low on refrigerant.

The ice from my ice maker has small particles in it that look like flecks of paint or metal. I have stainless bottom freezer Kenmore with ice/water in door.

Hello,

To assist ice from popping out of the frozen mold of the icemaker it is coated with nonstick teflon,just like the teflon on your cookware.That teflon is flaking off of the icemaker mold and the icemaker must be replaced.All you need to do to replace it unscrew it from the side freezer wall,unplug it and instatll new one. The part number is 4317943 you could purchase it at your local appliance parts store on online at;

I have a kenmore three door refrigerator ice crystal built

This is usually due to an air leak at the freezer door/drawer. Check out the gasket and if it is bad, out of place replace it. If the gasket looks good go around the door with a dollar bill closing the bill in the door. The dollar bill should resist being pulled out. If you find spots where the bill slips out easily this is a spot where the door/drawer is not sealing good and letting in air causing the frosting.

Hello fergust
Welcome to Fixya,

You said, I have just purchased this unit and switch it on.After some 3 minutes error message appeared on the front door screen . Message ---- ER CF Neither fridge, freezer or ice maker are working. What is the problem.

Did you turn the refrigerator and freezer on to the proper cooling adjustments as in the user manual?
Is the ice maker hooked up to the water line and in the on position?
Did you use the free help line if you are doing it your elf?

While I look it up, you can try to reset the system by plugging the fridge for 5 minutes, or if you can not reach the plug, then throw the breaker for 5 minutes.
Not less than 3 minutes. That is why I sad, 5minutes.
Usually this will do it! let me know as I look up the error codes.

Kenmore refrigerator problem

It sounds like you have a plugged defrost drain line. This is where the water goes to in the bottom of your freezer when it goes through the defrost (removal of ice from the freezer coil) cycle. It sounds like that hole is plugged and now the water/ice has now frozen in the vent that lets air circulate down into your refrigerator compartment. What I usually do in this case is to unplug the refrigerator, empty out the freezer compartment. Usually I also end up either pulling off the back panel or the bottom panel (in the freezer compartment) Looking for that defrost drain hole and actually I use a hair dryer. I can sometimes do this also by pouring small amounts of HOT tap water onto it and then sopping/absorbing it away with a sponge or dishcloth. I repeat this until I get the water to go down the drain tube. Do this and all will be back to normal..

Regards,
Sai.

sounds like your freezer isn't freezing lift up the wire arm on the ice maker to shut it off then put your finger where the ice cubes should be and if the water isn't frozen you may have a cooling problem listen to see if you hear the freezer fan running then look at the bottom of the freezer at the back wall where the vents are and see if they are blocked with frost and reply to me

HOOK UP OF ICE MAKER TO THE WATER LINE

At the back bottom of the fridge there will be a coil solenoid. If your appliance is ice make ready this will be there, these coils have a bracket that has fitting for a water connection. Get a 1/4 tube with a ferrell and nut. slide them on the tube and connect to the fitting.
