Question about Acer Aspire 5050-3371 Notebook
Sounds like your back light in your LCD screen is out.
What were the last things were you doing with your laptop before the LCD screen stopped working?

If the light stays on for longer than about 20 seconds, try moving the lid back and forth, try positioning it in every possible way. If you get an image, even for a second, you need a new LCD cable. If nothing happens, try to get your hands on an external monitor. Plug that bad boy in, if you get the image, you need either a new LCD cable or a new LCD screen. If still nothing happens, then you probably need a new motherboard.
Before you go buying a new MB/LCD/LCD cable, which can be rather costly, open up the back and make sure the RAM is seated properly, sometimes something can jar RAM sticks loose.
